2023 New Releases

Experiences with new releases?  Driver or otherwise.  We’ve tested the Stealth 2 and 2+.  Thought my son would love the 2+ bc it’s flatter (he plays all of his other clubs flat) but numbers were better with the 2.

Overall, the Stealth 2 is slightly hotter than his TSR2 (not material enough to warrant a change) but went ahead and ordered since the discount applies to premium shaft upgrades as well.

Have tried about every driver head this year and ended up with the Steath 2+ with Graphite Design XC 7X shaft.

Here is the story behind the choice.

Understand he is left handed and the heads he was borrowing aren't in high demand left handed.  Basically let him take what he wants.

About a week before the new releases, the boy cracked his second Cobra LTDxLS shaft.  He loved this driver.  Local shop started to get all the new demo heads in at this time.  They had the Paradym *** and they gave it to him to try.  It was honestly a pos for him.  He didn't like the look, feel, or performance.  Took it back after 5 days and they had the new AerojetLS.  They let us borrow it which was ideal because he could slip his Game Ventus Black shaft right in.  The ball had a tendency to keep knuckling out of the air.  Went to the PGA Show after about 5 days and they fit him there.  They ended up putting him into the regular Aerojet head because his spin numbers were too low with the LS version.  The normal version was 1900-2300 spin rates while the LS lower.  So he ended up gaming this for a month.  He came to really like the head and played it well.  We had no idea what replacement head was going to be sent from Cobra.  We were thinking maybe the Aerojet if there were no LTDxLS heads left.  In the meantime he was fit for the Stealth 2+.  The numbers on the 2+ were ridiculous not to mention it is a cool looking head.  I went ahead and bought the Stealth 2+ not knowing what head Cobra was going to send.  I figured I could sell either of these and make money with the prices we buy stuff for.  Cobra ultimately sent the LTDxLS head which I just sold for $250.00.

He has tried the Titleist and just blah for him.  Wasn't great wasn't bad somewhere in the middle.  Good driver just not the best numbers and he plays all Titleist Irons and Wedges.

Ping was the worst of the bunch.  Slow head and slow ball speed.  He and another 120 swing speed junior were hitting this head at PGA Demo day and they were consistently between 114-118 club speed and the ball speeds were 168-172.  These kids are 120 guys and 175+ ball speed.

He is gaming the Stealth 2+ and loves it.  Went to the heavier Graphite Design Shaft and lost not club head speed over his current 6TX Ventus Black.  The misses on this club are incredible.  The talking heads are talking about slow ball speeds on the heel with the 2+.  His miss is a heel shot and they are still getting out there 290 and are still fairway finders.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

Your son is getting deep!  I remember you saying in the past that a huge distance gain seemed to come out of nowhere.  I experienced a similar thing with my son recently.  Puberty is a real thing and that tells me the range of distances between ages 12-16 are all over the place.

My 11yo daughter demoed a 10* TSR1 Thursday and Friday, and we didn’t really experience any distance gains from TSi1.  What we did see, was a more forgiving driver that was still carrying well with decent dispersion away from the sweet spot.

At first I wasn’t impressed by this, but the more I thought about it—I decided it was enough of an improvement to buy one today.  This was a decision I wrestled with the past few days, but I decided that it was worth it to me to stop tinkering and just get it.  As a bonus, the MMT Speedmesh 40g Regular shaft it came with is light and very playable at her low 80s SS.  We haven’t cut it yet (it’s a little over 1” longer than her current gamer) and haven’t decided if we will stick with the Accra i50 senior shaft she has been playing, but it’s nice to have a viable stock option.

Playing into the decision was how well my son hit her 10* TSi1.  He needed the launch the head offers, and he’s hitting it noticeably better than his old TS1… a swing change also played into this, finding him almost 5 mph club speed over the last week.

Before this week, I was really leaning toward Cobra and was very impressed by early returns on Stealth 2…. but a recent TXG video pitting the TSR1/stock R  vs Ping G430+/auto flex in what was a virtual draw—pretty impressive.

Next driver will be a full fitting experience, but  this choice (once I got past most of my store credit was going towards this driver) ended up being pretty logical for us and our situation.
