G430 max versus TSR lineup

I hit both today. I really wanted the Titleist to win because of its looks, but it couldn’t match the consistency of the G430 for me.

 

I hit about 5 shots with each. Coming from a Miz SZ220, I got about 10 more yards of carry (270ish) with the G430. The TSR2 gave me 280 carry on one drive, but the other four drives were shorter scatter shots to either side of the centerline. All of the G430 shots were within 10 yards of the centerline.

I had it narrowed down to the STZ 230 and the TSR2 or 4...now you gotta throw the G430 into the mix. 

 

I'm going to go give this a try...I've heard nothing but great things so far.

Without having hit the ping yet I will say - as a traditional shaped driver player (like TSr4 is my preferred style) -and open Team Titleist person, the shape isn’t going to wow me (relative to TSr) but for some reason looking at the 430 at address I feel like it is going to crush it. Time will tell w/actual data but valuable intangible is the expectation you get looking down at a club. 

I know everyone was waiting intently - it was pretty impressive how forgiving the Ping is for being the low spin model. Sound is definitely better than the last Ping I tried. If I fully fitted myself with the perfect shaft I could get it pretty close to my TSr3 which I guess should be true of every major OEM on the tour.

 

Having so many Titleist aftermarket shafts though I’m going to stay in my 3 but i’d recommend anyone interested in the LST to give it a go.

Haha. You were like me. The 430 wasn’t even on my radar until I hit a few drives with it on our driving range. It’s solid.

I had a Titleist fitting on Wednesday for irons but ended up hitting drivers. I currently play a TSi2 with a Ventus Blue and hit it ok but tend to miss toe side. He said that TSr line was made to increase spin out of the toe as the TSi line was too low, which caused low spin hooks or pushes right that don’t come back. He put the TSr3 on my shaft with the weight one slot to the toe and I saw an immediate difference. The toe strikes stayed in the air and in play. The best combo for me ended up being the 10 degree head with a Blue TR but at $900 I didn’t pull the trigger. The main reason is I want to try the Ping and see if I can hit it straighter more often. My course is demanding to hit the ball straight over distance so that’s what I’m chasing. I’ll report back once I hit the Ping.

There’s whole threads just a couple of lines down on the tsr with the pings usually mentioned.

I have this year hit both the TSR2 and G430 Max. I have a 15 handicap and look for consistency when it comes to the driver. TSR2 my handicap went up to a 17 because on my off center hits they turned out to be OB. When I tried the G430 Max my handicap came back down to a 15. My off center hits still managed to be in the rough and playable. Dispersion is much better with the 430.
