Have there been any elite amateur Golfers over 300 lbs in the last 30years?

After Chris Patton with his 1989 US AM, I cannot think of any.  (Colt Knost was much smaller and no where near 300lbs.).

BTW I am not including just chubby golfers.  I don’t recall any Solid 6’9” , 300 lb athletes being elite Ams either.  The big kid on Busta Golf is big enough, and a decent player, but not “Elite”.

I don't know what Fat Perez tips the scales at but he's probably the best big amateur golfer out there right now but not sure if he's "elite" he is a plus capper so hard to say.

None than I can think of. 200 lbs is about the limit for the modern pro.

Ummm John Rahm begs to differ! 6'2" and 220 pounds

Add Darren Clarke and Ernie El's to the list.

I'd struggle calling them modern.    Can also add Vijay and Daly (easily) if we're going back a bit.

I know at least 3 ams in the Metropolitan Section (NY/NJ/Conn) that are close to 300 or plus lbs that are way better than FP. One was a former pitcher from Tennessee (he's a member here). +2 to +4 indexes mostly tournament play. When I was 300 I was probably as good as FP, but I have since lost about 75lbs (and have gotten a little better (not so much index wise but def more competitive in tournaments). It is also hard to tell if FP and Busta Jack are plus indexes because they play so many scrambles. THey def have the skill set to be though. Scrambles and playing your own ball def are different things.

I'm just considering who's out in the public eye, I'm sure there are many very talented big man golfers but most big guys don't post their stuff online. I know I'm one myself, I don't currently have the handicap. I'm working my way into the single digit handicap and I'm well over 300lbs myself although I'm trying to be under that soon, just not as common for bigger guys to be good on the course but they are out there.

Absolutely, I used to look for great "large" players to emulate their swings as well. One thing Busta and FP have in common is really good flexibility for their size, they finish their backswings and rotate through the ball.

Your Westwood tipped me off.

He has been in contention in PGA events as recently as last year, so I'd say he still qualifies, even if he is older.

Yeah not many just doing my own thing with my swing, will see if it works out this year lol. But every big guy is different as you know, so swings will all vary.

300 is kind of a arbitrary number w/o much context. I've seen 300 lb NFL lineman that are practically svelte. Did you ever see Joe Thomas out of pads? Guy weighed like 320 but looked about 250. Conversely, there are been plenty of fat golfers that were pretty damn good. Craig Stadler might not have been 300, but was certainly a candidate for lap band surgery.

Yeah 200 being the "limit" of a tour pro is one of the most incorrect things I've seen written on this site and that's saying something.

Would also add Jhonny Vegas, Woodland, Lowry, Leishman, Kyle Westmoreland, Beef Johnston, James Hart du Preez, (6'9 260), Angel Cabrera, Carl Petterson, Kiradech, Tim Herron, Kenny Perry, etc...

Tiger no way 200. He has some muscle mass sure, but he’s got a slight bone structure. I’d say 185ish max.

Tim Jackson from Tennessee was an elite am & a big guy in his prime. Probably well over 200 pounds but not approaching 300. Not sure how tall he is so hard to guess his weight from pictures.

I’d wager finau is over 200. I’m 6-3 204 with a 35 inch waist. So not really “ fat “. I could get to 195 ish but that’s about as light as I could imagine.    Big feet are heavy .
