Have there been any elite amateur Golfers over 300 lbs in the last 30years?

Hard to believe, but I never actually hit 3 Bills on the scale.  (Nor was I ever an elite AM).  Mid 290’s is as high as I got.  I actually thought of a Pizza Glutton weekend, just to say I once weighed 300.  I cannot carry that much weight, my “healthy” weight is 240, which I when I played my best golf.

I'd agree.  It doesn't take much to get to 200 when you've got that kind of frame.   Finau is far from a "Fat" guy, but he's solid.   He's listed as 91kg, but then again John Daly is listed as 220.  Can take listed weights with a grain of salt.

He's 6'1.  A lean reasonably muscular 6'1 guy probably sits around 180.  Max Homa is the same height as Tiger, considerably slimmer and is listed as 181lbs.  Tiger is listed as 185, but that's probably quite old.  He's put on an easy 10-15, in the past year.  The only question is whether he's still down much mass on his lower body

200 isn't exactly big. Tiger has a similar build to Bryce Young and he just checked in at 204 at the combine.

He’s a little under 6’1” (our best forensic photographic ppl have concluded this) and I wasn’t getting the 185 from the internet. Was around him quite a bit at the trophy ceremony when I volunteered at the Genesis last year. Slim frame, scrawny legs and moderately muscular upper body… My final analysis is 190 or less. We will never know, so we can respectfully disagree 😊

Oh now we’re guessing BF%?! 😂 Tigers calves AND legs are quite thin. I know plenty of athletes that have done a ton of leg and glute work and STILL have legs like Tigers. It’s all good. Stupid to “argue” over things we will never know. 😊

A little over 2 years ago I was playing with an older guy that said I was built like Rory. I took it as a compliment even though I have about 5-6 inches on little Rors. About a month ago I'm playing with a different guy who said I reminded him of John Rahm. Now I look nothing like John Rahm and maybe he was just talking about the fact that I was consistently hitting a cut off the tee that day. Regardless, I took it as I sign that I need to get my fat butt on the peloton. I'm 6'1 and about 210 right now and was closer to 190-195 during the Rory comp. 

 

Regardless, I have a pretty good idea what 6' 200 looks like as I basically live there. I stood near Tiger at Torrey and he doesn't look much smaller than me. Is he 190, 200? I don't know. Probably depends how much pasta he's had recently.

Hard to tell weight just by looking at someone. I'm 5'9, wear size 30 pants and size medium or small shirts. I look like I weigh 160ish. I actually weigh around 190. 

 

Some guys look big and are light, others look smaller and are heavy.

Not on the regular tour anymore but I bet Colin Montgomery is pushing close to 300, and still playing decent golf. Watched him walking around at the Champions Schwab Cup Championship last year and almost felt sorry for him, with all that fat bouncing around it looked very uncomfortable. Long John Daley claims to have gotten up to 324 at one time, lost a lot then gained some back, not skinny for sure.

Harry Higgs? His PGA Tour media bio lists him as 235(kg) - which must be a typo maybe 235lbs - but a big guy all the same and elite for sure!

I’d say it looked like he had been doing a fair amount of upper body work. Hard to believe he was doing any bigger compound moves for his lower half when his leg was a coin flip away from being amputated ~2 years ago. Explains his “the guy that always skips leg day look”. But like I mentioned before, with his body type, even if he didn’t have the accident/injury and was able to go after his lower body hard, he’d still have “skinny” legs.

i remember thinking how big he was standing next to the US Am champion, Tiger Woods.

I reckon he tipped the scales near 300…he towered over everyone in the field
