Have there been any elite amateur Golfers over 300 lbs in the last 30years?

He wouldn’t last through a week of practice at the level. All these guys are 15% bf. The RBs and LBs are even higher to just carry some extra lbs for leverage and lineman lol they hefty!

 

As far as Tiger, he was 155 out of college and put on 25-30ish lbs over 5-6 years and stayed very lean. But even that’s like 185 lbs tops at his biggest.

FYI, Cowboys left tackle and future hall of famer Tyron Smith has the lowest body fat to muscle ratio in the nfl for anyone over 300.

I was 6’, 330 when I had a nice run in California am golf when I was in my 30’s back in the late 90’s and through the mid 200’s. Wasn’t quite elite, but I competed with guys that were elite mid-ams and could hold my own back then.

But his playing weight is barely over 300 at 6’5

 

so if someone wants a ripped 300, he should look like Tyron.

Russell Claydon, European Tour, must have been close to that when amateur and his early days on tour. He slimmed down to 225 lbs and stopped winning. It was guzzling marshmallows that did it according to a tour landlady.

FP versus the big boy from Busta Jack would be a good match for the title of “best plus size you tube golfer” (a highly coveted title).  Likely to depend on length of course as to which one wins.

I always liked that biggun that was on the Big Break.  I think his name was Mike or something.  He just seemed like a nice guy.

Andy Bean and Phil Blackmar have to be contenders. Both were big lads who had to be the thick end of 20 stone.

 

I have a photo of me next to Phil Blackmar from the early 90s. I look like a twiglet.

Hate to do it, but BMI is inherently flawed. My BMI # says I’m “obese”… My BF% is 12. Simply uses height and weight with zero regard for body composition. Middle of “healthy” says I should be 180lbs @ 6’4”. If I weighed 180lbs ppl would be trying to buy me sandwiches all day long! 😂

On the BMI scale I'm technically obese too, at just shy of 6'00" and around 13 stone. Even so, I'm often still described with words like lithe, skinny and wiry.

 

Years of climbing have given me a lot of upper body muscle, which evidently fools the BMI calculator/algorithm-thingy.

Agreed.  One of my kiddo’s used to do strongman competitions.  Back then, middleweight went to 231, then unlimited.  He could starve himself to make 231 @ 5’9”.  Obese BMI, low body fat.  Once you hit the 231 up class, you had no chance unless you were well over 300 lbs.  They have since created more weight classes.  My read is every one of those athletes were morbidly Obese with regards to BMI.  Some looked to be 400 lbs with about 100 lbs of body fat which technically should not be obese.

 

Phil Blackmar most likely did get over 300 lbs as he got older, but not as an elite AM.

To be fair a lot of pro athletes are "obese" on the BMI scale. It's a little outdated concept that probably should be updated.
