TS-3 Vs I210s

I love the look (and the price) of the Maltby TS-3s.  How close to the 210s are they?  Would I be downgrading (other than resale) moving from the Pings?

Depends on what you need.  
-I210 has a much higher CG, will work better if your steeper into the ball.  TS3 has a very low CG, will work better if your shallow into the ball.

-I210 has a higher MOI so should be more consistent/forgiving on off center strikes vs the TS3.

-TS3 will probably feel better due to it being a forged from a solid billet of steel, although the I210 feel really good.

 

Only way to find out is to build up a TS3 and compare to your I210’s.  For the price of the TS3 it’s a pretty cheap experiment.

I had the Ping i210's. I had to have the trailing edge of the sole ground down so that I could move the club head through the firm, dry turf here in DFW. Distances were very consistent with the i210's, and they felt good, and I liked the shape of the club head. 

 

Then I discovered the Maltby TS-1 irons, and they reminded me of the Ping s55's and iBlades (which I also played). Feel was amazing, and the sole of the club was perfect.

 

Moved to the Titleist t100 irons, and they are very demanding for me, but I love the feel, club head shape and variable bounce sole (which I guess Bob Vokey had something to do with). 

 

When the TS-3 came out, I ordered a 7 iron head. One range session convinced me to get the rest of the club heads so I could build a set.

 

I am a shallow picker-sweeper of the ball, so a lower COG helps me. The TS-3 has a lower COG than the i210.

 

The TS-3 soles are great, and the club head shape is very much like the other clubs I mentioned, kind of like mama bear, not too small, not too big, just right  . . . . for me. 

 

Order a club head and try it. 🙂
