Do the Ping G425 Hybrids stink or is it me?

I came from the Titleist 818 H1 with Fuji Atmos Blue 8s (19 and 23), went to the ping g425 (19 and 22) with the stock cb shaft (hated the feel but hit it ok on the range) put Aldila tour blue 80s in them. Just cant hit em...

 

What gives???? Is it the club or operator error?

I've found the G425 hybrids to be some of the best available.  Tons of them on the LPGA.  Could be a shaft mis-match for your swing but only testing can answer that.  

 

This coming from an old dude that carries hybrids down to 30° with 7 as my first iron.  I own a lot of them by most of the OEMs.  G425/G410/G400 are as good as they come.

To my mind the fairways and hybrids in the 425 were the hidden gem of the line. They do have a CB shaft in them as Ping stuff is perhaps a little heavier. If you are committed to figuring it out - Tensei Orange Raw in your flex maybe. Seem to have shallower faces if that is an issue.

Lots of people love them but you have to go with what works for you, get fitted yadda yadda.

 

FWIW I couldn't hit them (or any hybrid for that matter) well at all.

I only play the 5 hybrid as a 4i replacement and it is one on my favorite clubs in the bag. 
 

overall the g425 hybrid are very popular and well received.

I just got the 3, 4 and 5 G425 Hybrids, and the 6 is arriving this week. Just one round in with them and I didn't change my setup or swing at all. They are the best hybrids I've had, and  believe me I tried them all! They are straight, consistent and long, with a medium high ball flight. I love everything about them! 

 

The key thing was the lie angle. All other hybrids didn't have the adjustment to flat neutral lie angle. I changed the setting to neutral flat and it changed my hybrid game, no more pull hooks!

What do you mean by can’t hit them? Like can’t hit them straight? Can’t hit them long?

 

I have a G425 19 degree and for me the shaft weight is the difference from hitting a straight pull to a straight shot.

I was playing Titleist 816 hybrids when someone gave me a Ping 425 /Rogue Black 90 TS combo to try at the range. I actually laughed/gasped out loud after hitting it.  It was so ridiculously easy to hit compared to the Titleists and still had a great ball flight, distance and feel.  I ordered 19 and 22 on the spot - I eventually changed the shafts to Ping Tour 85x but they are firmly in the bag and gap perfectly between fairway and irons. No real interest in trying the  430 hybrids..
 

The only other times I remember being that surprised and impressed by a clubs performance was first time hitting MP14 irons and then later the original Adam's Idea Pro hybrid.

I have older Ping hybrids and a friend has the 425's. I've hit his a bunch and they are very easy to hit. They have the stock stiff shafts and they feel good.

Probably just don’t suit you. I cannot hit a Ping hybrid for the life of me but love my titleist hybrid. I know others that say Ping hybrids are very easy to hit but I cannot hit them for the life of me.

Either catch em thin, off the toe, etc. Nutted one yesterday and thought I was going to be long but was woefully short...Maybe I'll throw the stock shafts in and see what happens. I'm sure a few range sessions might help too, but just the past 2 times out, they certainly didnt seem to get the job done.

I agree with this. The Ping loft sleeve seems to make a visually noticeable difference in the flatter lie setting. But making the adjustment to the lie angle certainly helped.

Trust me, I want to like these things. After reading reviews and just the comments here, I just want them to work. I love the look of them. Guess I just need to get them to the range and work on them

Having similar problems with my Rogue ST hybrid. Hit it well during demo day and now almost everything horribly off toe, thin, etc and it goes nowhere. Only occasionally catch it good. Tested against old TM hybrid last week and it is way harder to hit. I’m thinking it is a shaft issue. Frustrating.

Flattened mine out too. Fantastic. Also went up to an 85G non CB shaft. Different strokes for different folks, but it feels better for me after the shaft change. I can actually get it to go right consistently now 🤷

Hated the G425 with the standard shaft.

 

Tried G425 with the Ping Tour and Tensei Orange (brilliant) and bought the G430 3 & 4H with Hzrdus Smoke Red - utterly amazing clubs.

Don't use a ping hybrid, but I couldn't get any hybrid to work until i went with a heavier shaft (95g) FWIW

If you're missing all over the face and hitting thins, it's not the club head design - its shaft & swing related. 
 

You can keep buying random shafts until you get lucky and find one that works or you can go and get a (proper) fitting. The choice is yours.

I tested quite a few hybrid... it was the only one going pretty much dead straight and hitting the dame carry distance over and over. It was amazing.

What lie angle do you play your irons at? Do you miss your hybrid to the right?

 

I only play Ping and titleist hybrids due to the fact that I typically need a flatter lie angle and these both can do that. 

 

If i had a guess, id bet that you play your lie angles more upright and prefer an upright hybrid as well.

 

You can adjust the sleeve to go a bit more upright to help with that.

I am flat 2.5* and my miss is a hook most of the time. I will mess with it more at the range. As mentioned, it could be the shaft and/or a swing flaw

I play the G425 5 hybrid with lower loft to replace my 4 iron.  Its an awesome club and I hit shots with the G425h that I can't sniff with a 4iron.

major OEM don't really make "bad clubs" these days, same with shaft companies.

 

your combo likely just doesn't work for you for some reason, just the way it is sometimes

Titleist hybrids also have a 1 deg flat setting on their adapter.

I'm a slower swinger and play G425 irons 6-UW and have been tinkering with the G425 6h to replace my 6i as my 6i play is always hit and miss.  

 

With our weather I haven't had it on the course yet but have hit it at the range several times.  One day the hybrid is the most fun club to hit.  Other days I just seem off with it.

What I found was ball position seems pretty key for me.  Get it right and its a nigh tight draw.  Other days I mess with ball position and end up coming OTT and hit the high floaty one to the right.  i haven't given up on it but did order in a Cobra to see how it fares.  I love my Exotics Xrail 5h so nothing ever seems to compare with it hybrid wise, but I keep looking for a 6h that plays similarly to the Tour Edge.
