Do the Ping G425 Hybrids stink or is it me?

I play the G425 5 hybrid with lower loft to replace my 4 iron.  Its an awesome club and I hit shots with the G425h that I can't sniff with a 4iron.

Mosesgolf speaks the truth.  Wonderful hybrids.  I hope you can find the shaft combo for your swing.  I have the Tensei Orange 85g shafts in both of mine and they produce high and straight shots.  Can get crappy results if the swing isn't functioning as it should, but overall very forgiving.

I agree with that 100%. Did a lot of research before buying these. What baffles me is I hit my titleist's very well. Before someone says, "Why not just stick with them?" I am a wrxer...i have a problem. LOL

Titleists are great, too, and they look and feel better, IMO. I'm all Titleist right now, but I played the G425 driver and fairways last year. Liked the look at address but the feel was awful. But that was not an issue with the hybrid, which I tested but ultimately never played because I just prefer fairway woods.

I am flat 2.5* and my miss is a hook most of the time. I will mess with it more at the range. As mentioned, it could be the shaft and/or a swing flaw

They're absolute weapons for me.

There was a Marty Jertson interview where he said the 2/3 Hybrids are designed to perform differently from 4 and up though.

2/3 are supposed to be more like driving, penetrating distance clubs with roll-out.  4 and up are meant to be more like Iron replacements to hold greens.  And in my testing, that holds true.

I had it at the flat setting and same thing so i switched to the standard. Mind you, I only had range time with the stock shaft. I plan on heading back tomorrow/ Friday to get it right. Of course my son has already put dibs in for them

Flattened mine out too. Fantastic. Also went up to an 85G non CB shaft. Different strokes for different folks, but it feels better for me after the shaft change. I can actually get it to go right consistently now 🤷

I struggled to get results with my G425 hybrid until I went heavier. 85g was the weight that worked for me.

Powerspec in the 230 4 iron is just .5 degrees. In my experience, hybrids of equivalent loft go a bit farther than their iron counterparts. If it were me, I'd go 4i and 4h, especially since you can both flatten and deloft the 4h if needed to fit the gaps. Adding loft to a hybrid and closing the face angle is a no bueno for me.

Of course, this all depends on the gap between your 7w and 5i. If it's 20-25y, best to go hit everything and see what fits the desired yardage most consistently.

I'm a slower swinger and play G425 irons 6-UW and have been tinkering with the G425 6h to replace my 6i as my 6i play is always hit and miss.

With our weather I haven't had it on the course yet but have hit it at the range several times.  One day the hybrid is the most fun club to hit.  Other days I just seem off with it.

What I found was ball position seems pretty key for me.  Get it right and its a nigh tight draw.  Other days I mess with ball position and end up coming OTT and hit the high floaty one to the right.  i haven't given up on it but did order in a Cobra to see how it fares.  I love my Exotics Xrail 5h so nothing ever seems to compare with it hybrid wise, but I keep looking for a 6h that plays similarly to the Tour Edge.

Ball position is huge with hybrids. I think most of us have a tendency to play them too far forward in our stance, like a FW. Need to play them like a 5-6 iron in my stance, even the 19* and 22*.

I find that when I'm struggling to hit mine well ( G410, Riptide CB 80 ) that ball position is the culprit.

I'd try the 5H first. You can crank it down to 24.5 and work it out from there, so you'd presumably be going from a 21 degree 7W up 3.5 to 5 degrees. At one point I had a G425 7W and 4H and found them too close together at standard lofts, and too hook-prone when I lofted the 4H up.

I'm going thru this right now. I went with the 5h lofted down big minus to get to 24.5* after my 21* 7w. I still need to get my swing grooved after winter rust, but personally I'm finding that the 5h goes about as far as my Zx5 5 iron.

I really wanted it to be a 200 club, and I think I can get it there once we're back in the season--but it might need a shaft change (playing stock Alta right now) and some swing fundamentals lol. I can't get much more than 190 out of it currently.

Best advice would be to find a 4h or 5h and see how it compares to your current 5i

As most people said, its not the club, its me...and I STINK!!!! LOL. After a lengthy range session today, I found that my hands were too far forward and ball position was whacked. That being said, looking down at the club, I feel that it looks closed at address when in fact it isnt. Once I got my ball position and hands correct, I hit long high bombs. BUT...its going to take a lot of conscious effort to remember my hands and ball position on the course. Something I never had to worry about with my titleists

Angle of attack is important us well. I find the more you hit slightly down on it the better they perform.

How well do you hit fwy woods? I put a 7wd in and took my 3 hybrid out. It’s been he best equipment decision I’ve ever made. Took a weak area of my game and made it a strength.

I disagree. Sometimes certain brands don’t mesh with certain players. Ping makes great clubs but I’ve never really enjoyed playing them. I’ve had G10 irons,  a G400 driver and a few putters.

No reason to try to adapt to a club to make it work just because others have had success with it and high praise. Find what suits you and your game and move on It’s the Golfwrx way.

Best of luck.

I'm even wondering if my setup was bad with the titleists? I'll try them out on the course and the range a few more times

Just curious, did you end up sticking with the G425 hybrids?  I'm in the same boat.  I really want these hybrids to work for me.  I've tried the flat settings, added loft, decreased loft, and I just can't get comfortable with them.  I suppose it could be the shaft (Alta CB regular), but I'm not sure that's the issue.  I am a good ball striker, but for whatever reason, I just can't make consistent contact with them.  Maybe, like you, my ball position is out of whack because I do tend to play them more forward in my stance.

@e-man I ditched them and went back to my old Titleist 818h (s). I am pretty sure it was me, but was kind of sick of sucking with them.

Interesting that you mention Titleist hybrids.  On a weekend golf trip a few months ago, I was struggling with the g425 hybrids and my friend had a Titleist hybrid (can’t remember the model but it was definitely started with an 8 or a 9 and not a TS, although I think it ended in 15 and not 18).  It had a 60g reg flex shaft (of course I can’t remember the shaft model either). It was fantastic.  Felt great.  Launched great.  I should just get whatever that was.

Whenever I've had Ping hybrids I've had to alter my ball position and hit them just like irons. I find they have a lot of offset. Whereas I hit my current Titleist a little more in front of me rather than under me (if you get my drift).
