DG 130 MID S400 was the winner for me.

Comes down to weight being heavier. It matches my transition really well. Modus 130 S (HSx1) felt a little to light. Also felt the tip being more active/kicking and that’s not a good feel for me.

I hope this helps!

Great, now the degenerate in me has to try these.

i really like the kbs tour v ten 130.  A little softer but similar profile and still 130 might be nice.

I also like the modus 130 but like you found the 130s too light, and the 130 is just so butt stiff I didn’t like it in the short iron

Mid will definitely feel smoother during the swing.

My friend played the tour v 125 s+. He hit the dg 130 MID s400 and he commented on how it loaded a little easier, but still had good start lines. It did launch slightly higher for him as well.

I hit the tour v 125 s+ and felt the same as the modus 130.

Mid fits me because I have a moderate transition, but I need weight to time the transition correctly, but I do not need the crazy amount of stiffness. My speeds right now are about 88-94 depending on the shot.

Just ordered testers in the mid 130 x1 and s4 in both the 8 iron and 5 iron.

Whelp I had my T-series iron fitting - got to hit PX Red 6.5 (which I was excited about for similar reasons as DG Mid), but it was decidedly not the shaft for me. They sadly didn’t have DG Mid 130 to demo, but I ordered them blind - X100 soft stepped once - knowing I have a set of std X1s lying around if I need to rebuild.

@JJgolfwrx - when you say the weight of Mid S400 helped you, is S4 slightly heavier than X1 like in standard DG? (Or were you just saying it was heavier compared to Modus)

What’s also interesting is the tip measurements are 2” longer than standard DG flex for flex. I’m sure TT adjusted wall thickness and the actual step diameter to hit their profile target, but I’ll be curious to see how it feels

Very curious how the 100s compare to Modus 105.

I went to TrueSpec yesterday and how out that apparently their model is to pitch overpriced custom builds by TrueSpec, rather than work with the customer on what they really want (particularly price point!)… as a result, they dialed me in on Mizuno Pro 245 with Oban CT 100 shafts (in regular! but a 6i CPM of 312). I asked about Modus3 because of my research into them and a prevalence of them in resale. I have Modus 115 in a set I’ve been trying a couple weeks, but the fitter seemed to be onto something with me needing a lighter weight, still stiff, low launching shaft - rare combo but Oban did it. I hit the Modus3 105 S and it was pretty close in stats to Oban, but higher launch and spin.

Given I didn’t want to spend $3,800 on the set he quoted (with two wedges at $350 each also), I went to a PGA Superstore today to try more lighter weight options with a MP 245. I continued to miss right with PX LZ 5.5 (115g) and PX LS 6.0 (120g), the DG 105 S300 went too high and too much spin… the Modus3 105 S and DG Mid 100 S300 were both clearly best for me. DG felt better but I didn’t have time to properly test the two to the point of purchase.

I don’t know how to describe it well… Modus 105 felt a little harsher, like a “click!”, on slight mishits, and DG Mid just felt flush more often. I think the DG might’ve had more variance in spin rates so I’m still undecided.

Just noticed this video comparing the two directly as well.

I note the same feeling with the Nippon 115 vs the DG 115 Mid as well.  A heavier, flush feel when hitting the ball, with more center strikes.  The Nippon also felt great but tended to miss left more times and they didn't feel as nice on mishits.  This was using a 925 Forged head.  I bought the 925F and have no "ragrets".  Terrific iron, and as per testing they do not go left at all, just a straight or slight fade ball flight.  Good luck!

Still testing.

my initial thoughts are dg mid 130 x100 is very similar to a modus 130x, but probably more playable for most.  Modus 130x required a really specific load and release and felt great when you had it, but on off days with timing it was not good.

This dg x100 130 mid has a really stable handle.  Sometimes I felt like from 7 iron up (6,5,4) the standard dg got too soft in the handle.  This doesn’t do that while still feeling like an x100.  Easier to work and flight.  I’m still digging my kbs tour v ten 130s, but I may order my next set with dg mid 130 x100 as it’s pretty close, just a little less stable.

i didn’t like the mid 130 s400 as much in the irons, but I’m thinking about putting it in my 56 and 60.

These have been my observations as well. I wouldn't sleep on trying DG 130 MID X100 in the wedges to test at the very least.

Interesting.

try the x100 mid over the s400 mid in the wedges?  I do like it in pw.  Really tight dispersion.  Definetly kinda catapults up like a modus 130x and kinda just soars to the end of its flight.

ah okay, when you talked about flighted shots being easier I assumed that also meant the wedges too.

I found identical to you going from the Modus 120 to the Mid 115.

New T100 finally arrived with DG Mid 130 X1, soft stepped once. Hopefully getting out today or tomorrow for some testing

Waggle test echoes @Pnwpingi210 above…it still “feels” like a DG, handle is definitely more stable, and the tip feels faster through the release/impact zone. Std DG has that almost slow thump to the release feel and can seem “slow” if your timing isn’t good or don’t release it fully.

DG Mid 130 definitely not as exaggerated as something like Modus 130, or even KBS Tour imo. “PX 6.0 + DG had a baby” wouldn’t be the worst description, but it might be closer to “Oban CT + DG”

Have a few range sessions under the belt…impressions match the initial waggle test:

-Compared to standard DG, trajectory is higher but a little more consistent (std DG can be quite low or quite high depending on my release, whereas Mid comes out in a much more consistent window)

-I tend to have a shorter swing and aggressive transition, Mid significantly reduces variance in my starting lines, whereas std X1 sometimes goes on a personal journey in my transition and I wonder where it is

-Mid feels stiffer in the handle and more active/faster in the tip section. Think a more linear Oban CT or KBS Tour. It’s much less exaggerated than any of the stiff handle soft tip shafts (Modus 130, Tour V, etc)

-Despite Russ’ EI Area, DG Mid X100 ss1 doesn’t feel “too stiff” - overall “playing stiffness” feels similar to X1, PX 6.0, etc.

-I would say it’s easier to work small finesse shots with DG Mid because of the softer tip, but std DG has a wider variety of shots that can be played because of how much release impacts ball flight (like, if you’re Tiger, you can launch one into the stratosphere or flight one almost on the ground - vs Mid those shots would be a little closer together with the same swing)

Lastly, I stand by the best comparison being “DG and Oban CT had a baby” - this is a really good shaft for the player it fits. Similar flight to PX but much better feel. Less exaggerated/temperamental than Modus 130/Tour V. More controllable than std DG. More linear than Oban CT.

I’m impressed 😅

Great write up! I’ve bounced between PX, X100, and KBS Tour for years and definitely get what you’re saying about X100. I’ve always thought that the reason it’s still the tour favorite is because it performs best for that level (not because these guys grew up playing it), and like you said it can be manipulated well for great ball strikers.

I’ve been in PX 6.0 most recently but considering going back to X100 because I might want the extra weight, plus the feel of a stepped shaft now that my transition tempo is more moderate. I’ll definitely look at trying DG Mid first before making the change.

Definitely hear you on PX 6.0 - I’ve been fit into it so many times, but stepless shafts feel a little harsh to me. I don’t quite have the speed for X100 straight in (I’m 90 ss with 7i). But when I soft step it the handle gets that touch softer, so always felt like I could have the right stiffness or the right profile/feel but not both with X100 - DG Mid solved that problem, and soft stepped once they feel pretty dang close to std PX 6.0 in transition
