Wide blade $$$$$?

launcher

Recommended Posts

Been gaming pretty much the same putter design for decades. A blade style (Ping design), with a flare neck. When the Odyssey inserts came out, I went with that, and still have two pretty much the same Odysseys for about 10+ years. Both were around $100 new. I won't buy a used putter.

At this point, I really find myself wanting to go to a wider blade. Another Odyssey double wide flow would be perfect. Don't want to sound cheap, but can't justify the price for putters. Any suggestions that might be a whole lot cheaper? I'm a feel player, and just don't see the tech in a putter. When my hands are right, I could putt with a hockey stick. I absolutely never, ever practice putting.

PXG Closer with their heel shafted neck. Brand new $300 on their site if you search eBay can definitely find a cheaper one.

Yeah, no shade but you'd have to shop around for something used if you have sticker shock even on some of these mid-range Odyssey/Ping putters (sometimes I do, too!).

Callaway pre-owned is a great place to find an Odyssey if you like the feel of an insert--they will inevitably run 25% off sales at least a few more times this year.

I saw a Cleveland Huntington Beach wide blade (#8, I think?) from their line of putters this year that looks really nice. I've heard that line of putters is a super value, but don't have any firsthand experience with them myself. But they also start new at ~$250, so again you'd be sniffing around for a used model.

If you want something that is quality, and new, I don't think there is a better deal than the new Cleveland HB Soft line.  I just ordered the model 4 with step less steel shaft, golf pride pro only red star grip for $200.

Not sure what your budget is but anything new these days will be at least $200. You might be able to find unused Odyssey double wide flow neck midels (from the 2019-2020 Stroke Lab lineups) on Ebay. Probably won’t be any cheaper than the original msrp though

I'm playing the sub 70 wide blade.  Wilson also has one that is affordable.

If I do pull the trigger, I'll probably go with the Wilson Infinite west loop model. Don't mind the head at all, but worried it isn't Odyssey soft.

Not sure if you pulled the trigger or not but the West Loop definitely won't be Odyssey soft. Not a terrible putter for the price however, my dad's gamer so I've tinkered with it a bit

The Wilsons are definitely not soft. For a soft wide blade, I’d give a tryout to the 2021 Ping Kushin 4, now under $200 new.

Lots of options.  I have the Tri Hot double wide. Yes expensive, but has been my all time favorite putter.  Figured I use it more than a driver and it if works will help lower my score.  I do understand the price point concern.

What neck are you looking for?  Do you prefer milled or insert?  I think best bang for you buck is Cleveland.  My daughter has been using the wide blade.  I would have got that but only came in a double bend.  Sub 70 is solid, but a little on the heavier side.  PXG is good when they run sales.  TaylorMade Hydro Blast is another.  Good luck.

Don't know what availability is like in the States but in the UK you can still buy a small selection of new O Works black odyssey models for about £120.  The 2w with flow neck and 1w with plumbers neck are both still available.

Another option would be the odyssey DFX wide. The DFX was a less expensive line than some of the other models.

There is so much available in wide blade these days. Putters are more expensive than ever and you refuse to buy a used putter...

I guess you should set a budget and wait until something comes along. The sub70 is a great middle ground imo.

Decided to pass on the Wilson. Always played a flare neck, (flow), and much prefer a soft insert over milled. Ironically as you mentioned, am now considering an HB soft #8. Not sure if it's wide enough to match an Odyssey, haven't had one in hand as of yet.

Pretty sure it is as wide as the Odyssey double wide, but not the triple.  When I get a few minutes later this morning, I will post of the double wide and #8.

Here you go.  They are the same size.  The top line on the Cleveland is a little thicker, which makes it look a little slimmer, but it is not.  I put the soles against each other to compare.  Good luck.

Thanks for posting, and for your overview/assesment. Looking down, It does seem as though the HB is narrower. I can see how that would be optical, as the thicker top line makes it seem narrower by comparison just as you stated.
