Titleist mb’s

I’m looking to pick up a used set of titleist blades, have always wanted a set just to play around with. What is one of the better looking titleist blades I should go for? I remember the 710mb’s looking pretty cool that Rory played but all the others I can recall how they looked at address. Believe the 716’s had more offset for Adam Scott which I’m not into all that much.

718 MBs are amazing, more forgiving than my old 716 which had a slightly different MB, maybe even more forgiving than my 620 MBs.  Titleist 716 MBs had a bit more offset than my 620s, but the squarish toe made it less noticeable, as if to frame the ball at address, least to my eye.

If you really want to test your learning and patience, check out good ole 670 MBs.  I played them for a few years.  Only 20 guys used them on tour, Els was the big name.

Having said that, I've played MBs for years.  They are NOT for the faint of heart or people looking to adapt to them fast.

I've had four sets of blades.  I started with a set of 690mb and from there had blade sets from TM and Srixon but I kept going back to my old set of 690mb because they were just that good.  When the faces on those were beyond shot I searched eBay until I found a new old stock set of 690mb irons.  The new set had different shafts in them and I tried them and ultimately swapped the heads and shafts so that the new heads were on my old Rifle 6.0 shafts.  I'm still playing that second set and will play them until either they or I wear out.

No.  Those were around 2009 and didn't offer a 2 iron.  Also, when I played original Callaway X-Forged.

Got my second ace while bagging a set of 690.mb's.  They had the DGS300's in them.  Long time ago.

I used to have a set of 690 MBs.  They were amazingly soft.

I'm curious as to why look towards Titleist for blades vs others?  I mean, when looking at stuff dating back to the 710s or a bit before, there are other clubs I'd be looking at first.

I have a refurbished chrome set of 690mb's that I play now (work done by Flanigan's in CA).  I have another set of black refurbished 690mb's from Tiger Nick that I use for practice.  I only use 6-pw, so the cost was minimal for both sets.  Both were Covid ebay impulse buys that turned out great. I won't be in the market for irons again.

Last blades I played was like 2010 or so, mizuno mp32 which is only blade set I ever played. Over the years I always enjoyed hitting a titleist blade occasionally when I had the chance, I just liked the compact look of them vs something bigger like mp32. Felt like I could do so much with the ball off a mat.

Never picked up a new set because I know probably wasn’t the best purchase vs a players iron. Think I need a used set of them when I get the itch though.

Lots of stuff out there to scratch the itch with, find something within a price range and just do that.  No need to chase anything too exotic or a bit rare in this situation.

Today when I was at the sims (were still a few weeks away from the start of the season), I brought out my Scratch SB-1s.  Also have a set of the OG Nike blades and some Srixon 945s.  When looking down at the top line of my 300 Forged, I still feel they are the thinnest of what I have, which is crazy.

Mine are the original 690 not the dot 690.  Pretty sure I first put them in my bag in 2007 or 2008 and they've been there ever since with the exception of very short trials with TM and Srixon blades.  Prior to that I played a season with the Titleist 755 irons and Nike before that.

I'm bidding on a set in England right now. I went from older Staffs (Turfrider-era) to a set of 716s I got on the Bay. For years I've been trying to maintain the grooves but they are almost gone (still work fine, but could use the stopping power of fresher grooves hence the 690 bidding). Good to read you like yours. I'm not especially fond of the 716s, but 'it isn't the arrow', so can't fault Titleist....

I have hit the Adams MB2s and they were sweet for sure.

Nike aren't as clicky as Titleist tho.  Some of the best feeling irons I've ever hit are Nike, can't say the same for Titleist.

For looks I have always loved the 712's, very clean. Performance is not going to differ to much even going back to the 690's etc, just find a set in nice shape that tickle your pickle and go play them, cant go wrong!

I don't know what it is but the 712's have always caught my eye, there is just something special about them

I picked up a combo set of 712 MB and CB a few months ago.  CB 4-7, MB 8-PW.  Decent condition heads with the usual nicks/scrapes from the previous owner.  Heads only from ebay for $120 delivered.  This was my first interaction with blades, and I love them.  It's what actually got me to start searching for other blade sets, and I've since built up some MP14s, a older set of Tour Staff forged, and I'm building a set of Titleist Tour Forged now.

I always played shovels (Ping GMAX) before I started building my own stuff.  I started with cavity backs, then perimeter weighted muscles, now a few true blades.  I'm a better ball striker than I thought, as my Arrcos data has actually improved compared to my previous few years with the Pings.

One thing I'll point out, I couldn't hit blades well when they were shafted with stiffer and heavier steel shafts.  I have average 50yo swing speeds, and just didn't get along with heavy/stiff shafts and unforgiving heads.  I couldn't get any elevation with them.  So I experimented and found I really like lighter weight and soft flex graphite shafts.  Most sets I've built have used Senior or even Ladies flex shafts, that usually come in at 55-65g for the 7i.  I can even manage to get decent elevation on the MP14 1-iron.

They were Bridgestone made Miuras with mizuno stamping covered by the script titleist which is why they only had room for a swoosh.
