Pro Golf Needs A Shot Clock...

They could do it like pool and allow for a certain amount of time extensions.  Like one 30 second extension per 9 holes for example.

When I win the lottery, I’m building a golf course where if you average more than 12 minutes a hole your cart shuts off, your round is over and you must hoof it back to your car.  I absolutely despise slow play and there’s no reason for it.  

 

I personally cannot wait until the general public starts hating golf again.  Can’t come fast enough.  Just this past week I witnessed a two some circling the green and backing off putts multiple times on a par 3 course I play with my son.  Later in the same round, 2 guys walked from the club house through the 9th hole and dragged their carts right down the middle of the 8th green and get on the tee box behind us.   Granted it’s a par 3 but a nice lighted par 3 tacked on to our championship course that my 11 year old boy and I enjoy playing over the winter here in Florida.  

 

Most holes are 60-90 yards with the longest 125.  Unfortunately most rounds take an hour and a half to an Hour and 45 minutes for some ungodly reason.

Baseball is better with the clock. Golf would be too.

Pre-pandemic guys were put on the clock on the PGA Tour all the time and it sped up play. Not sure why they stopped. 

Good point about the popularity of golf being a major cause for slow play at public and club courses. Ironic that the slow play itself will eventually fix the problem and drive people from the game. It's certainly working on me. I joined a Master's Swim Team a few months ago (year round outdoor pool) and we go fast--4-5,000 meters in an hour or so. You feel great afterwards, and it's great for you, but it does make the glacial pace of golf more frustrating. Would love to get a speed golf league going in my town. Anyone know how one goes about doing that?
