Recoil Dart Revisited

Being offered a good deal on a club but it has a shaft i have a negative impression of. As a lefty however i kind of have to take what I can get in terms of deals. My tendency is to favor premium graphite shafts like GD DI.  

 

Any thoughts on the recoil dart much appreciated.

I was anxiously waiting, thinking this would be the shaft I’ve been searching for. I tried them in my 7 iron and 54° wedge. I quickly found out they weren’t for me. It was like swinging a piece of rebar.

The opposite is what I'm most concerned about it. I don't want something that feels noodling soft and high launching. Also from my waggling of right handed clubs with that shaft, it felt like of like a tensei blue, which to me is one of the worst feeling shafts ever.

I'm sure you've followed more than just what was available for info in October. It plays very stiff to its label, and that's why I'm happy with my F4s.

Whippy? From a waggle.....

Ok. But I didn't say whippy, just more like a tensei blue. A shaft i found borderline unplayable. I think when you get a stock shaft, which almost by definition is not premium, you run the risk of it being too weak or made stiff in a way that messes up the feel.

The absolute simplest way to end this conversation- is to hit them on a LM and see the results. You've fallen into the OEM graphite iron shafts are "weak" arguments- which hold merit until you hit weight ranges above 80g IMO

If the clubs don’t fit you, then it’s not a good deal. That being said, a waggle, or a practice swing isn’t really a way to determine if a club is good for you. Until you hit shots with it, it’s just an educated guess.

True but as a left hander for years educated guesses were pretty much all we had to work with.

Which Recoil Dart shaft are you looking at…the 65, 75, 90 or 105? They are all quite different.

The Dart 90 is the new version the Recoil 95 which has been around for some time. At the F4(stiff) it’s in line with most other shafts. I see you’re currently playing PX LZ shafts, the difference in weight may be more of an issue for you than anything else.

It's in a 3 driving iron. My irons are 120 grams. I assume dart 90 is 90 grams? What do you think is about the right weight difference from iron to driving iron?

Can only say I have the Recoil Dart 90 in my Srixon ZX Mk II driving iron and I like it.  I also play Recoil 95 in my irons so I kinda like that Recoil type shaft.  It's not a crap shaft to me, but hey who knows what it's like for you.

Definitely isn't a gimmick, at least for me anyway. Turned the weakest part of my game into now a very consistent part of my game. Been playing it since it came out and well worth every penny I spent on it.

 

And it was a lot of pennies !!!!!!!!!

If you're concerned the "regular" DART shaft may not hold up to your swing, then the DART V shaft may be for you.  There's a 120g version, and torque values on the DART V shafts are much lower than the DART.  Similar to the previous-gen Recoil and Recoil Prototype shafts.
