MY Not So Great Arccos Experience

Recommended Posts

I had a Ping iron fitting while in Palm Springs in March & purchased the G430's.  The 4 iron came with a plastic Arccos plug that you scan and they would ship you a complete set of sensors for free to demo, all you had to pay was the $10.00 shipping.  I downloaded the app but didn't pair them, thought I would wait until I got back to Canada to try them out on my home course.

My course just opened, my first TT is May 01st. I was reading what's necessary to get these things to function and am thinking it's more trouble than it's worth because I have a Garmin G80 with GPS & Bushnell Pro Range Finder.

While checked my CC statement I noticed they billed me $155.88 USD for a subscription I wasn't aware of or agreed to.  Sent them an e-mail yesterday & got a prompt reply that they will process a refund and said I don't have to return them.

Don't know if these things can be re-gifted or not ?

Not impressed.

Reading the Quick Start Guide, I'm not sure these things are very user friendly.

If you're willing to commit to a pretty big initial learning curve and the (a lot IMHO) of ongoing time, effort and hassle you can build up a pretty informative and impressive database of your rounds that can be sliced and diced every which way. But it only works is you're willing to pony up the (steep IMO) $150/year fee and you're willing to check and correct the recorded information after every round.

If you're not willing to go through and check the distance/lie for each shot after the round AND make sure (most important) each first putt distance is fairly close to the correct then the insights you glean from Arccos or any system will be bogus. In my opinion, the $150/year is easier to swallow than the hassle of having the sensors on the clubs, carrying the phone or belt-clip device and spending 10-20 minutes checking and correcting things after the round. But that's just me, a lot of people find the time less onerous than the subscription fee.

Year ago I used Arccos for a good many months, gathered what information I wanted to see and bailed on it. It was good to get a solid picture of my golf game but no way I'd deal with the hassle on an ongoing basis. I also did it back when buying a set of sensors came with a lifetime subscription at no additional cost.

I appreciate your reply, Tks for pointing out the add'l details.

At 67, I'm not afraid of new tech, however, you confirmed my thoughts, these sensors require more effort than I'm prepared to invest in. As well I wasn't aware the $150.00 plus subscription fee was an annual expense.

When I return to Palm Springs this winter I'll see if someone wants them.

Cheers
