I bought Ping Rapture Js but they are regular Raptures?

I made a thread a couple week ago about wanting new irons. In that thread someone mentioned how much they liked the Ping Raptues from Japan. I was looking around and found a set on ebay. The price was reasonable and they had aftermarket Mitsu Fubuki shafts shafts in them so, I figure how could I go wrong, so I got them. They arrived yesterday and everything is good.  They're in great shape, I ran the serials through the Ping site and they are genuine.  They seemed to have a lot of offset though and Rapture Js aren't supposed to have as much as the US ones, though I've never seen either of them before, so I don't have a good frame of reference.

Only problem is they don't seem to be Rapture Js. They do not have the J on the back cavity and running the serials on the ping site they come up as regular Raptures.

Now all of that would seem perfectly reasonable, people mis-list stuff on Ebay all the time, here's the kicker though, these came straight from Japan. What are the odds of finding regular US raptures in Japan?

Were there any rapture Js that didn't have the J on the back?

Here are some pics of the 6 iron and the shaft.

So I got my clubs back from being bent this afternoon and went straight to the range. What a weird club 😂

I'm coming from P770s and I'm not sure if I like the feedback and feel or not. On one hand the P770 was pretty dead and dull all across the face and didnt tell me much - and on other hand the RST Pro is hard and clicky like a blade off-center but also similar in that the good shots feel good. My height, land angle, and spin is also great with the RST Pro in all irons so far.

The dispersion and forgiveness is amazing compared to the P770s - especially on low face hits - but again the feel is so hard and harsh on those off-centers.

I want to get some course time with them to see if theyre going to stay. I can deal with the lack of forged feel if I'm scoring better than with my 770s.

The TCB wedges are just wedges. They feel good. Nothing to whine about with those.

Remember my offset is exaggerated since I had them bent strong

Any way to tell which are the Gen 4 HZRDUS Black shafts? I read your review with interest as I gamed a HZRDUS Black a few years ago and really hated it. Felt dead and stout. Got rid of it. Then I had one late last year as the stock shaft in a Titleist 7 wood and it felt great, much different. I am guessing that was a later version. Is there any indication on the shaft as to which generation it is?

The Gen 4 seem to have pretty distinctive graphics.  Should be easy to distinguish Gen 4 from the previous generations.  Off the top of my head, it went Black, Smoke Black, Smoke Black RDX, and now Gen 4.  I really enjoy the Smoke Black and RDX.  Firm, stable and consistent, but not overly stiff or boardy.  I am sure the Gen 4 is great, but I have not tried it yet.

The CBS look amazing. Has anyone done a side-by-side comparison of the CB to T100, Apex Pro, or 0311T? I’m just wondering how they compare in size, offset, and sole width.

From the photos I’ve seen it looks like the CB has minimal offset.

That looks like J spec to my eye

I had a set....still quite a lot of offset

To my eye, too much offset IMHO?

I had a set years ago and I am not a big offset guy.

My opinion is they are not “J” spec.

I would present the serial to Ping to advise.

Well I put them in the registration on the site and they come up as regular Raptures. I ran a different serial from an eBay listing for the Js just to check and in the ping site they came up as Js.

So yeah I'm leaning towards they aren't Js too but it's just odd that they came from Japan, were listed as Js and they aren't. I mean how many non J raptures could there be there. It's just kinda funny.

I sent the seller a message, all they do is sell golf clubs so they should know the difference.

Rapture “J” specs have a “J” marked on the front of the back cavity. Regular Raptures don’t have that. I own both types. Obviously playing the J’s.

Post the offset difference from exactly 90* address, on both models & same iron, if you could, please. Thanks!

No, the price was about average, they had interesting shafts and the shipping was free. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have bought them. I figured if I didn't like them I shouldn't have too much trouble selling them for around what I paid.

I think the regular Raptures are V2’s and they are currently not shafted, but I’ll try to put a 7 iron in a blank shaft and get some comparison pics.  I’m a lousy photographer. According to the inter-web, Regular 7 iron is offset .25. J specs are .166. By comparison, Mizuno JPX 923 HMB’s are offset .196.

An update if anyone is still wondering. I checked the sellers other items and all they sell is golf clubs, so I contacted them. They asked for the serial number and called Ping Japan which did confirm they are US spec Raptures. The seller offered to take them back or refund me some of what I paid. I took the refund, the clubs are in really nice shape for their age and I didn't want to have to hassle with sending them back.
