New clubs messing with my head

Hello.

Made a few posts last year about wanting new clubs to increase the swing speed. After a few months there was a deal on a i230 with modus105 S that I couldnt pass up on and snagged them. My previous experience with light shafts was a few strokes with a club from the pro shop and hearing it was appropriate for my 105 driver swing speed or mid 80mph ss on a 7 iron. Last year I struggled with an in-to-out shallow swing which I worked on during the winter and a few weeks before getting the new clubs I was pretty damn accurate (anecdotal evidense ofc).

I wanted a little bit extra distance from swing speed and a higher trajectory. Going from S300 to Modus105 seem to get me what I wanted. After my first range sessions and a quick 18 I was happy about not having any back pain, not experiencing any fatigue during the round and such.

Fast forward 4 weeks and Im playing the "worst golf of my life" in relation to HCP. Ive had abyssmal rounds with half the "points" I should be getting, confidense doesnt exist anymore and I feel like I dont have any control. Its like Im losing the feeling of the clubhead, my usual smooth tempo is more of a jerky start with lots of arms. Obviously I have a few diamonds in the rough but right now Im at a point where I question if I want to play golf anymore.

Anyone had a similiar experience going lighter or is this just how it is getting new clubs?

First and only question here should be: were you fit into lighter shafts (i.e. Pings and Modus 105) and you made the plunge after seeing a great deal on them?  Or did you just think you need lighter and the deal was too good on the new i230s with a shaft you recognized that you made the plunge?  Talking to a teaching pro and actually swinging the clubs are wildly differing things.  If you got fit and they didn't work, you can chalk it up to either a bad swing day during the fit or a fitter who may not be the best.  If you didn't get fit for them, well, it's a failed experiment and you know what to do next time to not waste time, money, and mental energy on something that doesn't work.

I also wanted to add that there is a large difference in kick points and weight to consider. Even with the same head, the clubs feel completely different with those two shafts in play - I've done this exact change in a fitting session.

While I am not a fitter, I have similar swing speeds as you (moderate tempo) and have real problems swinging anything that light reliably. I did a recent fitting and found plenty of options in between these that could get you where you need. I can confidently say (for me) that the Modus 120, Project X LZ, and DG 120 will all launch higher than the S300 with the same or better distance while maintaining the same weight.

Not really a fitting. I was on a lesson and I asked about lighter shafts, he gave me a couple of options and it did create that higher flight so I figured it would be a good fit in the future. Soft of an experiment.

As you say the key word for me is reliably. Ive had great shots with the clubs but its like I dont really feel where the club is in the backswing or the clubhead upon striking. The swing just feels erratic with the low confidence. Going to have to visit the range often to sort this out, season already going...

That's the same problem I have when I get lighter...I lose the club or have no confidence where it will be on the downswing.

I am thinking about the same thing and hoping others in this thread have some ideas. I hope this helps this thread (not trying to hijack). I am in Ping i210s with S-Taper 130s X. I love heavy shafts and have had good results. However, I am getting older and feeling like I just can't move these things anymore and looking for a higher ball flight. I have shaft sets of S300s and a set of C-Taper Lites that I could swap. I am open to other ideas as well.
