Alright team. Not sure why I am posting this on here. Chances are, by the time you're reading this, I'll have already swapped out 6-12 wrenches due to a sub-awesome range sesh at the local muni while wearing flip flops, am 3 High Noons (Passionfruit) deep after giving blood (good deed), and hitting off mats. But hey, this is WRX and I know we're all doing it. 

 

The golf purse (European Handbag) itself is a Sun Mountain College Team version that I bought from our Athletic department from my Alma Mater. Long story short, I didn't care for golf back then (or college) and never really wanted to play. Fast forward a few years after graduating and resenting my academia, I realized it was time to give back a little and donate some $$$ to the program and buy a piece of memorabilia. It's a bag. It holds clubs. It does it's job and fades color in the sun and gains stains from spilt beer, sunblock, and whatever else is in my trunk. 

 

The bag sits in a ClickGear 4.0 (not pictured....you don't need to see a pic of this...that's silly). It rolls forward and has a brake. Ever so slight favor a drift to the left which is exactly what my ball flight doesn't do. It's blue. The stock accessories blow and the fact that Clickgear makes you pay an extra 20 - 30 for an actual beverage holder is a little sad. Looking into the Lemon law on the drink holder.

 

My set makeup is typical of a truly disgusting WRXer playing off 10 and broke 80 only a few times. Feast your eyes. 

 

 

Big Stick:

You have the driver that really got me going in terms my appreciation for golf. It was the first driver I felt comfortable playing while swinging stupid fast with no control hitting fairways at a blistering 10% rate and 300+ yards down there. Yes, you read that right. I've traded multiple drivers since then but, am back to the Callaway Epic Sub Zero in 9º. Stock shaft. Stock settings. 

 

Littler Big Stick:

I believe Shiels calls this "Ol' Bluey" and that's what it was for me. Learned about Shiels and his beloved 3W and started playing serious right around the time they were phasing these out and putting F8's on the shelves. Snapped the stock shaft out of rage one day with a snaphook from hell. Have since put in a HZRDS Smoke Yellow because it kinda looked cool and was relatively straight. I rarely use it off the tee because it is just silly. I rarely use it off the deck because it's scary. But this has been in the bag the longest.

 

Semi-Smaller Stick:

Adams Idea Super Black 19º Hybrid. Bought this for $15 at a local Play-it-again shop. I just needed to put something in there between the 4 Iron and 3W. It sounds bad. Looks dumb. Feels horrible. Sex appeal for days because of the brand. No headcover because people shouldn't do that with decade old plus hybrids. 

 

Irons / Wrenches:

So...I'm not like you. I stripe it dead center ever time all day. I don't need jacked lofts because I hit the ball far already. No but, seriously. These are just as clean as you can find and I grabbed them for a killer deal. All the stock lofts, lies, lengths and weights were perfect. Original owner must not have played them. The Bridgestone J15 MB's are in the bag from 4-PW. They do everything I want them to do and, unfortunately, are really shiny. I hate chrome but, willing to deal with it for the price I paid. 

 

Wedgies:

Callaway MD4 in 52º and Cobra Snakebite bent from 58 to 57º to keep gapping a little more consistent. 100 Yards and in game is locked in. Sand game is dialed. Light chips and fringe shots, forgettaboutit. When it comes to these bad larries, less is more. 

 

Puttanski:

The quintessential, cliche, overly hyped, overly played, pathetically overvalued, but comfortable, reliable, sexy Scotty Cameron Newport TEI3. Rust stains all over. Pitting on the face (more putts on this than Tiger on his 2...bet). Ugly red Pistolero Grip on there. Sometimes needs some lead tape on the bottom. This will likely never leave the bag. But, it's nothing special. Always willing to sell for triple the going price.

 

Grips:

I have small hands (that's not what she said). Cadet Small. Could rock a ladies large if needed (thought it'd be cheaper but, it's not...Equality!). I prefer a Mid-Size Cord from either Golf Pride or Lamkin. But, Tour Velvet is totally cool. 

 

Ball:

They're all the same. Right now, in between ProV1 / X from last year as I can buy them for $1 a ball new. Preferred ball, Nike RZN Tour Platinum or Black. I prefer yellow or Truvis / Pix / Divide and Hi Vis finishes on balls but, with an MTB / X or ProV1 / X feel.

 

Headcovers:

Driver - Bear. No clue why. It had a hate but fell off. It protects the driver head? 3W - stock cover. Lost this for 3 years then found it in my golf bag... Putter - Seamus Tie Dye with no Peace sign. I wanted to go halfway on the California hippie vibe.

 

Tees:

Whatever I can find on the box where one of the aristocrats that played before lost one. Or, one of the 3 - 4 handfuls of tees that I borrowed while I was at a private club. 

 

Overally, I think you can guess my style. Pretty close to being on tour (Grint tour) with no real practice, a tight budget, appreciative of nostalgia, thin top lines, Endo Forged Irons, Teryllium Inserts, and not a care in the world.

Those J15s are so clean. I love that there is almost nothing in the way of stamping on them.

If there was one or two things I would changed about the irons, it would be to strip the chrome and fill in the "forged" part with well and grind flush. Other than that, the irons are great. Some like to paintfill the B like they did with the 220MBs but, if I were to do that, it would be with some funkier colors. I wouldn't give it too much effort though because I may need to lead tape the irons when I put on the Mid-size grips.

Nice bag.  The Newport TEI3 was, and still is, one of my favorite Scotty Cameron putters.

Thank you. Since buying it, I’ve also teetered around with a few other putters. The TM Spider, Callaway 2 ball, Directed Force 2.1 (regret selling this actually but the TEI3 still beats it), multiple other Scotty Cameron custom Newport 1 and 2s.

It’s a good feeling putter (TEI3) and I like everything about it. Sometimes, it’s just good to try other things.
