Callaway ball that competes with Titleist 2023 Prov1

SwooshLT

Recommended Posts

Just got a set of irons with shafts that have increased launch and spin ......all good features but my beloved 2021 Prov1 is actually spinning TOO much....

Tried 2022 AVX but this is low launch off driver and spin into the green is just a bit lacking compared to 23 prov1....

So is there anything in Callaway family that plays like the 2023 prov1 ? Nice feel( not firm like X) but lowish spin that still has a nice decent angle to stop where it's supposed to?

I'm thinking std red box chrome soft but looking for input.

Unfortunately I don't feel Callaway has a true Pro v1 competitor. The chrome soft is too soft and you'll probably lose ballspeed. There's a reason zero Callaway touring pros use the Chrome soft ball.

I'm on the slower side of the spectrum but as I suspected,  no true equal

I'll try CSX but really don't want firmer ....so Vice Pro and CS get a look along Z-star

Standard Z Star. Soft feel like V1, but doesn’t over spin. TP5 will spin more than Z Star.

I'd say CSX as well just firmer. I like everything the ProV1 offers except the compression. It's just too soft for my preference.

The CS X is really good. It’s a touch firmer than V1, but for an “X” ball it flies lower like the V1 and spins less. The Reg CS will definitely spin less, but will prob fly a touch higher than the V1 and be significantly softer. If you’re looking for the closest performing balls to the the V1, Srixon Z Star, Maxfli Tour, and Vice Pro are very close.

I thought the Chrome Soft X spun more than the Pro V1 while having a similar trajectory...am I remembering something incorrectly?

Check out the Bridgestone B series. I used to play Callaway quite a bit, but with age, my swing speed has slowed. I switched to a Bridgestone RXS(am going to try the RX this weekend) and was amazed at the added distance I was seeing and still had great control around the greens. Even my regular playing partner noticed it(he was only about 20 yds ahead of me instead of 35-40 lol). Plus it lasts and doesn't scuff easily like the Chrome Soft.

I’m always interested to see how different golf balls work for different players. When I tried RXS it was almost a full club short off my irons, and almost 20yds behind the Tour BX off the driver.

I recently tested all of the Cally balls and I think the CSX LS would be the closest, but I don't know that it would solve a spin problem for you. I actually really like the regular CS as well. To me it was the best feeling and lowest spinning ball, but I fall right in between with swing speed at 103-105 so I am not moving it enough to overpower it. I still have some stock of the ProV1, but when I am done I will go normal CS (after much debate inside my own head). For me any loss in driver ball speed is made up for with the irons and short game.

I’ve realized that I prefer the ‘21 ProV1 to the ‘23. I just don’t like the feel of the new ones.

I grabbed a box of the CSx to try out. They feel great and I’m seeing a ball speed increase on SkyTrak. I’ll get them out on the course tomorrow.

Have you tried the left dash?  It's high launch like the ProV1x but is spins quite a bit less.  The CSX LS will be lower spin than the ProV1, but it's a firm ball.

I use the Chrome Soft X LS now. Truly fun ball to play. Absolutely long off the tee and I actually love the ball around the greens. Putting is not too soft and surprisingly not too hard at all.

From a performance standpoint, the CSX LS is closer to overall performance than the CSX. It's just that the LS is so much firmer. The regular ChromeSoft will be more similar off the irons/wedges, it just won't have the driver ball speed.

I have been going back and forth between the 22’ CSX>23 PV1X as a new CSX is coming this fall.

I traded in the 23 PV1X for the 4 dozen CSX deal this year which really surprised me. I’ve shot 3 shots better on average using the CSX, and I have so much better distance control with it.
First time in years I won’t be playing the PV1X in a long time, although I still have 4 dozen of those just in case 😂😂😂

I'm with you here. Over the winter Ballnamic recommended the Tour BX & CSX LS for me and both were within tenths of a percent in the ranking. I wouldn't even try the CSX LS as I have hated Callaway balls in the past and was very much a Titleist loyalist. I had 6 dozen 23 ProV1x. Tried the BX and didn't like its feel. It felt plasticky to me. I just went back to the Titleist. I found a LS on course and tried it. I really liked what I saw in the wind and overall performance. I purchased a sleeve and gave it a better workout. I now have 6 dz of them and switching out of the Titleist. For me the LS has the launch and spin of the ProV1 with the extra pop of the ProV1x Left Dash. The wind performance is the best I have ever tried.

I concur with Callaway CS family from the past.  Not a fan of any of them.  The latest CSX and LS much much improved and won me over.  Stoked to try the next release!

For my impact conditions they were very similar.

Really, the answer to all these questions is buy a sleeve of each you are really interested and go hit them inside with a GC Quad or Hawk.

There are general qualities of a golf ball but your impact will affect how much they matter. Won't take you long to figure out and way more accurate than "I hit it past where I usually do" so it must be a longer ball.... Maybe it was a better swing?

Hit 10-20 with each contender and you will know.

I swear I remember seeing an ad during the US open implying Callaway's big name tour staff like Rahm and Schauffele were using it.
