One of my best friends big brother was a reasonably high manager at Sun around 2000, from what he told me about Mavericks fathers management style he doesnt sound like the guy that fosters losers.

To be fair. I have met Mav and played with his brothers in amateur events years ago. Mom and dad were always around to watch. Super nice people. probably doesn't answer OPs question but Mav can play just hasn't broken through yet.

he was an exceptional amateur…until Neimann came on the scene and curb stomped the entire amateur world in his late teens

 

maverick beat Neimann at match play at austin cc…which was shocking…beat him like 5&3

 

Imho, neimann will be #1 in the pro world one day…Maverick won’t achieve that but he will be a heckuva solid tour pro.

 

Excellent putter and above average chipping…

In whose lifetime? He can't even sniff a win on the exhibition circuit. Zero chance IMO he will ever be a world number one.

OWGR ranking started in 1986, and since then there have only ever been 25 people to be #1. Saying that anyone is better than an even money bet to reach that level is pretty crazy IMO.... so I guess if you can find someone to give you odds on him making it you'll be very happy, bc it's going to be + a very large number.

I mean I guess he's only 24 or 25 so there is still time, but the guy has 2 PGA Tour wins (and one was Greenbriar which is the silly season on tour) and he's never finished higher that T15 in a major.

 

I'd say that is a far cry from being able to achieve OWGR #1 status...

I worked at SUN Micro from 2002 to 2005 -I liked-the place  and most of the newer technology that is use in sophisticated high tech runs on top of UNIX/LINUX the place was kind of a head of its time.

 

Yes, Maverick is from a lot of money and that is what takes to be an elite player.
