World Wide Wins List - Golfers Born 1955 & Later

Some surprising stats on that table.

One of my favourite players from back in the day, Mark Calcavecchia, should just about creep onto the list too, with... maybe 14 or so? 13 PGA Tour wins and an Aussie Open, from memory.

I have been working on a separate project that had this information.  I was curious as to win totals for players in the "Post-Jack" Era.  Most of the wins on this list came in 1980 and later.  We just miss Tom Watson (born 1949) and Ben Crenshaw (born 1952).  We do get the best American, European and International player pre-Tiger with Strange (b. 1955), Ballesteros (b. 1957) and Norman (b. 1955), however.  1955 felt like a good birth year to begin this analysis with these 3 included. Enjoy!

image.png.969bdb3f075b6398cc234488fbf2c311.png

*Note - Could/should add Furyk, Scott, Zach Johnson, Bubba & Rose...

Both Watson and Crenshaw are clearly "post Jack" era.  Miller and Wadkins as well.  Leaving out these folks (and 3 or 4 others) kind of skews an analysis of "post-Jack".  Have to draw a line somewhere but these were all considered potential heir apparents, Watson and Miller most of all. Nice list, though.

Watson always much greater than Curtis Strange, so no, not the best post-Jack/pre-Tiger American with Strange, lol.

Love Seve, but put me down for Faldo being the greatest Euro player pre-Tiger based on results.

I hate to say this, but Poulter probably scrapes onto the list too. 15 or so?

Bjorn has 17 wins that count (per my method above).

I initially made this list with a 1 major championship win minimum.  However, I relented and added Westwood, Montgomerie, and several leading players from the Japan and Korean Tours.  There are a few players from the Sunshine Tour, Australasian Tour and Asian Tours that would get into the 20 win figures as well.

Got Calc at 17 wins.  Perhaps I should reconsider counting South American Tour wins (pre-PGA Tour Latinoamerica/Tour de las Américas/Tour Sudamericano)...or maybe keeping just the Argentina and/or Chile Open?  He has a couple of those not counted.

I appreciate the insight @Hawkeye77  Nicklaus (b. 1940), Miller (b. 1947), Wadkins (b. 1949) & Watson (b. 1949).  Those last 3 definitely fall in between Nicklaus and the born in 1955 group.

Some more details.  Post Jack's final win (1986 Masters) those three had the following # of wins: Miller - 2 wins, Wadkins - 6 wins, Watson - 3 wins

From the list, only Norman and Seve, have a good number of wins in the 1970s.  Langer didn't win until 1980.

Maybe I should leave out "Post-Jack" and leave it at born 1955 & later!!??

Stricker has 12 PGA Tour wins.

2 Canadian Tour wins (not counted) and some misc. team & Wisconsin State Opens (not counted).  He also has 15 PGA Tour Champions wins (not counted).

I understand your spreadsheet but you are valuing the Sunshine and Australasian over the Canadian and PGA Champions Tours???  To each their own.

Correct, 15 wins.

Poulter s/b at 16 wins. 3 PGA Tour, 12 ET/DP Tour and a win on the Japanese Tour.

Paul Casey s/b on the list as well. 18 wins. 3 PGA Tour wins, 15 ET/DP Tour wins.

Darren Clarke as well. 17 wins. 3 PGA Tour wins. 11 ET/DP Tour wins. 3 Japanese Tour wins.

Well...you have to draw the line somewhere, right?  Korn Ferry Tour events are not included and those are a step above the Canadian Tour events.  I tried to count only wins from the respective "top" tier regional tours...and LIV 😉

Could include US and Euro Senior Tour victories...  BERNHARD LANGER would reign supreme!!

Careful with adding from Wikipedia wins, as each tour counts wins independently of each other.  Co-sanctioned events thus can get counted "twice".

I defaulted co-sanctioned event wins to the "higher" tour PGA Tour>Euro>Japan>Asia>Australasia>Sunshine>Korea

Poulter - 3 PGA Tour wins (incl'd 2 WGCs), 10 Euro Tour wins (not counting 2 WGCs), 1 Japan Tour win, 1 PGA Tour of Australasia win.

Right on with - Casey - 3 PGA Tour wins, 15 Euro Tour wins & 1 Korean Tour win.

Keep the notes coming please!!  Thanks everyone.

Yeah I double counted Poulter. Didn't double count on Clarke though.

Actually, based on the results it’s Seve and not really even close.

Well, unless you value one more major over 21 additional euro tour wins and one more pga win.

IMHO, for making a lists sake, I'd actually place the "Post-Jack" era from 1981 to present. After his two major wins in '80, he won just 3 more times on the main tour, Colonial in '82, the Memorial in '84, and of course his Masters win in '86.

That is about what he did….born after 1955.

I probably value Faldo’s US Open win more than many would and devalue the Euro Tour wins more than I should - definitely wouldn’t argue the point very hard!
