ventus tr blue users; pros and cons?

gbang15

Recommended Posts

i've been gaming the ventus black 6x in my stealth plus head for a year now. It's been my longest/fastest combo for high launch drives 12*+, however it feels too low spin for the times i hit more down on it <10* to keep it in play.

Anybody switch from ventus black to tr blue and found the shaft to help with spin maintenance?

Also, i simply cannot add loft on my driver for spin bc then the lie angle/ face angle is thrown off. (currently loving the OG stealth + head)

Honestly i'd recommend messing with the weights first. Drop the front weight down to 4g and pump up the rear weight to compensate. This is basically the current equivalent to the front/rear sliding weights TM used to use. Moving weight back will increase spin slightly and it's way cheaper than a new shaft, plus your MOI will go up which gives you slightly less spin increase on low strikes and spin decrease on high strikes.

I play Black as well in my driver and then move to TR Blue in my 3 wood. Also, play with tee height possibly?

I am 6x black in driver. I tried 6x tr blue and didn't like the feel. If you like the 1 piece feel of black then you'll notice some give in the mid section of the tr blue. Tr blue COULD spin a bit more for you. It could be about the same as black. It all depends on how the feel difference translates in your swing and delivery.

This is a situation where you will just have to try it. I agree with Valtiel that flirting with weight setup could help.

Another thing to try is to go up in total weight. If you can handle yhr swingweight difference then try adding about 3g of weight to the back of the head. Sometimes just going a bit heavier can add a touch of spin.

Only way shaft is going to alter spin enough to notice is ofy it changes where you strike the ball on the face.

My tsr2 with tr blue 7x spun 1900 in the bay because it allowed me to hit higher on the face. Bring that down a little bit on the face and I'm up to 2300-2400.

With that said, ventus tr blue is the best feeling ventus shaft in their line up. It's the black tip, blue mid and a softer butt. Smooth but very stiff in the tip still. Black is stout, no kick... Blue is very stiff in the butt and that's not for everyone. Tr combines the best of all worlds which is why it's so popular on tour.

Had the Black and tested the TR Blue extensively.  Spin was within 200 rpm of each other.  The biggest difference was launch which was about 1-2* higher with TR Blue.  Black was more stable/anti-left.  TR Blue is on the smoother side with a hint of kick while the black has a little feel to it and very linear.

Im a massive fan of the tr blues. I have a 6x in my driver and a 7x in my 3 wood. they feel automatic, and are smooth, but tight feeling. I attribute the shaft more to a feeling, with the benefit of hitting nice mid flight draws and fades. low spin

I have the TR Blue in my driver and I like what you said. It feels automatic. Hope soon to my it in my 3 wood.

Had the regular Ventus Black and was too stout for me. TR Blue is just perfect!

My experience exactly, I moved from Black into TR Blue and biggest difference is way better feel and a bit easier to turn over, but just as stable as my Black.

Throw me in as part of the crowd with TR Blue 6x in my driver (TSr3) and 7x in my 3 wood (Ping G430 Max). Love the feel in both clubs whether swinging conservatively, or gearing up to go for it. I did like original black in driver (not in  the fairway woods) but it would give me a little too low launch on tired swings. Tried the Black TR 6S in driver, but sprayed it all over the place with that.

Same. TR Black in the driver and TR Blue in both 3HL and 7W. Slightly more spin with the Blue so I'm able to hold a green but still extremely stable.

Want to add, I'm testing the 8x in my 7w and it's also a great fw shaft. I'm putting it up against my trusty Fuji 2.0 TS that I've been using for the past 3 years now.

I'm actually going to put another 7x in my 3w, soon as I can get my hands on one. I'll be tr blue from Dr to 7w.

Yesss, TR Blue takeover has another member. It only took maybe 2 or 3 driver swings for me to know i had found something special. In another post I said that I believe the TR Blue will eventually go down as Fujikura’s best shaft. There are still so many Ventus Black and Ventus Blue players that have not even tried the TR Blue yet. I have heard so many ppl say they really like Ventus Black but, if they are not warmed up enough then the shaft can be a bit too much. Or the tee shots can get away from them unless they are swinging all out. I think a lot of those types will fall in love with TR Blue.
You are right about it being great in fairway woods too. Allows me to retain the same type of feeling during the swing whether it’s driver or a fwy wood. The comfort level i have with those clubs has become basically automatic.

I’m would be interested in trying the TR blue. I’m currently playing the 6s Blue and I really like it. There’s really no reason to change but there’s that part of me that wants to know what it’s like. Anyone transition from standard Velocore Blue to TR Blue? Did you keep the weight and stiffness the same?

Been playing Ventus TR Blue "S" in TSR2 10' driver for a while now.  Spin is fine, and trajectory is within my eye, better than my original Red "S."

TR Blue tip section is like TR Black, ultra-stiff.  The difference between the two is Blue spins more, and has softer butt section.  The soft butt section of TR Blue "feels" very different from what I am used to; it's not so much point and shot for me.

One thing I commend @Fujikura Golf for; there's a clear difference between Original Ventus Velo series and the new TR series.  I may buy a TR Red "S."

Take a look at using something like Shaft Shack. You can order whatever shaft you want to demo with the adapter for ur current driver. They send u the shaft, you can try it out for a week or 2 (not sure the actual time frame), then ship it back. Good way to try out a shaft or 2, without actually having to purchase the shaft.

100% subjective…to me the OG blue felt way more stable than the TR Blue and the TR Red tipped a bit extra feels like the OG Black with a bit more feel on the lower third…I actually find the TR Blue to feel soft to flex because of the mid, which is weird because it’s not designed that way.

Well you're right... Overall the tr is slightly less stiff than og blue. But it's really only in the butt section where there is a bigger difference.

I also played a tipped red and I did find it similar to playing a regular black but with some added feel.

I do.  The TPO is very linear and stout.  TR Blue is has a little kick to it but by no means feels soft probably due to the stiff handle.  In terms of launch/spin, the TR Blue was about 2* higher launch for me and spin was similar.  TPO is harder to turn over/anti-left compared to the TR Blue.

That’s interesting about u guys saying the OG Ventus Blue felt more stable. To me the TR Blue feels much more stable and tighter throughout. The OG Blue had that accelerated taper rate from the butt section down to lower mid/upper tip area, which per Fuji “make it easier to load more consistently”. That ultimately gave me issues with timing, and i needed more stability in the butt section with less of that kick. Enter the TR Blue and I was good to go. TR Blue ei chart shows that overall it is stiffer, the ei for the OG Blue has a rapid loss in stiffness from butt section continues until low mid section then the stiffness increases rapidly through the tip. When u see the chart side by side it shows the feeling i get swinging both of them.

I think it's great for 3 metal.  It's definitely a true low/low shaft and it's counterbalanced but not to the extreme.  It's very linear but not overly stout.  You can still turn the ball over with it.  It's also very smooth.  I think Hao Tong Li actually has the 80TX in his 3 metal.

So far the flight is seeming a touch too high and spinny even with dropping the lofts down on the club head. Thinking I should have went TR Blue but was afraid it might be too much shaft...
