This course might be a bit over $100 but it was a good one, and it was fun, awesome views.

Restaurants-

Can't go wrong on King St. or really anywhere near it. Price is the biggest factor

82 Queen

High Cotton

SNOB (Slightly North of Broad)

McCready's

Cypress

The best place, but it's mostly a college hang place is Kicken Chicken on King. There is lots of good seafood and southern type stuff. If I were you, I'd get to King Street and walk towards the water and you will pass 100 great restaurants.

I just came back from a week in Charleston. I go every year to visit the folks. As far as golf goes Charleston National is the best bang for the buck. Very very good test of golf. The greens are smooth and very fast. Wild Dunes Links course is beautiful, but over your price range, but the Harbor course isn't you should check it (Wild Dunes Harbor) out along with Charleston National.

Rivertown is a very nice course. Really tough. My favorite is probably Charleston National though. Good test of golf, very nice layout. Have a good trip.

two of my favorites, especially charleston national since my parents live on the 10th fairway and i shot my lowest score ever there.

82 Queen

82 Queen has the best shrimp in grits in town. a great place. not overpriced like you would expect when you walk in. victories, or victory, or something like that is pretty good to. honestly, i've yet to have a bad meal in downtown charleston. there is so much good food there.

I'll put in yet another vote for Charleston National. Some great par 3's on that course. I'm not sure what the price is there now, but a few years ago it was pretty reasonable.

I've stayed a Wild Dunes a few times and the Links Course is still one of my favorites. Course is always in immaculate shape and the finishing holes are some of the best. The Harbor Course has a completely different feel but it's quite a bit cheaper and still enjoyable.

use to be. 18 has been turned into a par 3 for now because of erosion. i remember the first time i played and you aimed your tee shot at the sand dunes. came back a year later and the dunes were gone and because the fairway drops you look like your teeing your ball in to the atlantic ocean. last year i go and the 18th is a par 3 and if you miss the green left your on the beach, and it was high tide at the time so your in the water.

Wow, I didn't realize that the 18th was now a par 3. It was a pretty difficult par 5 to get a sight line for the tee shot. Do you know when they converted the hole?

WILD DUNES is a great track. There are two courses Harbor and Links. Links is a Fazio design and the better of the two. Harbor is nice but tight. GPS on carts, you can even order a sandwich right from the cart and have it ready and waiting at the turn. More than $100 but worth it. Golf Digest top 100 courses you can play. Do it you won't be sorry.

i believe it happened in the spring of 07. i played it in july of 07 and it was a par 3, but the scorecards still showed it as a par 5. i had recieved an e-mail from them and it said they were looking at restoring the hole, making it a par 4 or leaving it and making 17 a par 5

 • 1 year later...

I'm re-igniting this thread.

Wild Dunes Links course has been restored to it's original design. The Par 5 is back, and it's actually a little harder of a hole than it was before. I'm so happy that it's returned.

Other top notch tracks:

Kiawah Island - Turtle Point
Rivertowne CC (hardest course in Charleston county, next to the Daniel Island members club)
Charleston National
Patriot's Point Golf Links (most underrated course in charleston, BY FAR)

Restaurants:

King Street
Basil - Thai Food that will make you want to eat there 365 days a year.
Fish - Eclectic Asian Fusion place with a cool vibe inside. Really diverse menu w/ French and Asian cuisine.
King Street Grille - Best place to watch sports with a big group, period. Awesome wings, Waffle Fries.
Old Towne - Greek restaurant (undergoing renovations inside) that is a real winner. Great Greek Chicken.

East Bay Street
FIG - (Food Is Good) Without a doubt, a gem in Charleston. Organic Foods, local produce, it's a must-do.
Pearlz - Local franchise group (T-Bonz, Liberty Tap Room, Pearlz) with awesome seafood. Get an Oyster Shot ;) trust me.
Tsunami - fantastic Sushi with a good Beer Menu. Nightlife spot as well, you can just set up shop for a night.
Social - Wine / Beer / Pizza / Tapas. Solid Place with lots of local live music.

Elsewhere
Bowen's Island - Google it. Best seafood you've ever had in your life. Worth the trip.
Poogan's Porch - Just off East Bay. Southern style and cuisine.
Rue De Jean - John St. just off King. French cafe style cuisine, outside seating and the best Mussels in town.
Oak Steakhouse - Just go. Let my boy Brett McKie knock your socks off. Downstairs has a lower-priced mixed Italian menu as well.
Moe's Crosstown/Downtown Tavern - Two locations, try the original or the new location off East Bay. Best Burgers in town. Huge collection of TVs and lots of drink specials every day.

Nightlife (because you can't skip out on your nightcap in Chucktown ;) )
Blind Tiger Pub - Old speakeasy is the oldest pub in Charleston, awesome building, and the best Sunday Brunch in town.
Cigar Bar - Ask a local on the street, they'll point you to it. (hint, it's on East Bay)
Moe's Downtown - (see above) Find Sally. She's the best bartender in town.
Salty Mike's - Underneath the Marina Variety Store Restaurant off Lockwood. Awesome in the summer. Packed.
Club Trio - Not a real "club" like you're thinking, but it's close. Lots of live music downstairs, dancing upstairs. Wild.

End of transmission. let me know if you need any more ;)
