Compared to R10 plus on the course my drives are in the 240 range and I'm not getting 40yds rollout either. if I was swinging 83 like the PRGR says I definitely wouldn't be hitting 240yd drives

I ask, because I know a lot of guys think they drive the ball XXX yards because the card says one yardage, and they have another yardage left to the pin. But cards notoriously inflate hole lengths, holes dogleg, etc. The only way you can accurately measure your drives is with a GPS.

I rangefinder back to the Tee from my ball. Doesn't get anymore accurate than that. Plus I take total yardage on GPS and subtract what it says to middle of green. And I only measure on straight flat  holes

There are two versions - are you using the latest? I like mine also it seems pretty accurate too - just wish I could do metres and mph

On a calm day, find a measured forced carry of 220 yards over a lake.  Buy a couple dozen new premium balls at full retail price.  Set up your PRGR.  Hit the 24 balls.  At 93 MPH they should carry the water.  Count how many balls carried the water and compare them to the PRGR readings.  If you are averaging 93 MPH, it should be apparent and you should have plenty of new balls left to play golf with.

Received the PRGR today. I was getting some accurate readings when compared to my BLP that was sitting right beside it. But most of the time it was way off the mark. And it was only close when I hit a ball, and swinging without a ball it was reading 10+ mph slower than my normal swing. And randomly would jump from giving me a 70mph 8 iron swing to a 105 mph 8 iron swing... with some swings being where I actually am which is in that 80-87 mph range.

The carry numbers seem to match up with the BLP, but the clubhead speed can jump around a good bit.

Not sure what to make of this. Pretty frustrating.

this is how I have mine set up.

edit-and tried moving it closer, and hanging the unit off what it's sitting on. Still having same issues for the most part.

I just got one for speed training at home and am seeing the same thing. My driver speed is 110+ on trackman. On the PRGR when doing swings without a ball I struggle to get 100 mph. Frustrating. I might return it.

I've had some low speeds and misreads from time to time. I set it up in front of a trackman and numbers when hitting balls were close on ball and club speed (distance less so).

I mostly use it for speed training. Seems okay but not great overall. Likely more accurate when hitting balls.

My PRGR has been in the junk pile. I pulled it out today thinking it might have been user error when I first tried it. It says I hit Driver 200 yards with SS in the low 90s. I had a membership at a trackman facility last year and I was swinging 101-103. I hit the ball further now than I did then so I know this is inaccurate.

It was also saying I was hitting 8i 120 yards. I can clearly tell it was much further than 120 yards and my rangefinder confirms it. PRGR is junk. At least mine is.

Curious to see if anyone has any thoughts on this: I have been doing a lot of speed training so I use the prgr often to check progress.  I will usually get mid 170s to low 180s ball speed on the course with SS between 120 and 123.  Once a week I go to a water range with floater golf balls where I can hit balls hard and not care where they go.  My swing speed reads between 127 and 131 but only on poorly struck shots with low smash.  Any ball that I hit good, reads low 120s like when I am on the course even though I am swinging out my shoes.  I am wondering if, because the balls are slow, prgr’s algorithm is messed up when it sees the club going fast but the ball going slow?  Or do I just have not as much in the tank as I think I do?

Okay, I own a GCQuad and a PRGR. Here's my take.

  • PRGR is usually within 5mph for club speed.
  • PRGR is only useful for clubhead speed. Distance numbers are way off.
  • I've noticed that different driver heads give different speeds on the PRGR.
  • If your swingspeed does increase with training, you will see your mph increase.

Is it worth a few hundred bucks?

I'd say yes, but only if you're just focused on clubhead speed.

It's a bit of a stretch to call it a launch monitor.

From my experience using prgr its decent for clubhead speed....sometimes, very good for ball speed. Everything else is what it is because theyre really just estimations based on the ball speed number and a very limited amount of ball flight from the doppler, but i dont think its bad for the price. And if youre speed training it certainly is good because you can swing witbout hitting balls.

What's your experience with Dry swings? I've found PRGR to be unusable for me on dry swings.  Always under-reading by a lot.

It depends. Ive started to really find that if youre taking dry swings, the prgr will start to give inaccurate readings if your low point is not in line with the device.  Ive done 3 speed programs now with stack and definitely notice my weirdest readings occur if i lose control of where im bottoming out.  Its easy to loose control of that low point if youre trying to swing out of your shoes at an arbitrary focal point, especially with driver because youre typically swinging up a bit.

If im taking dry swings on a mat with an iron the accuracy is pretty good because im usually skimming the mat with a dry swing and its easier for me to have a consistent path with a shorter club, so the unit is seeing the club go through the hitting zone at its fastest point

Why would it be unusable?

Its underreading by a margin but its very constistent, especially when using speed sticks where you cant manipulate CHS with closure rate from the club.

Im very inpressed with the PRGR in the purpose of increasing CHS. Ballspeed readings are also very accurate when comparing it to trackman indoors or toptracer outside.

PRGR reads the fastest part of the club, which is the toe, where GCQuad measures the speed at the centre of the clubface.

There is also a 'club speed at impact' data option on the GCQuad and if you hit it out of the toe it shows this reading as 2mph faster than the standard 'club speed' (centre of face) data field.

In my view the PRGR reads 2mph too fast when hitting with a ball and maybe 2-3mph too slow on a dry swing.

If I could only buy a PRGR, I would take it into a facility with a GCQuad and calibrate it, so you know to add or subtract for the real figure in future. The PRGR is accurate enough to trust the increase or decrease in speed you record over time. It's a poor launch monitor but an excellent I club head speed monitor that's quick and simple to use. I recommend you use a small tripod that raises it about 5 inches off the ground. It has the threaded hole for camera tripods. It might help with your low dry swing numbers.

As for actual launch monitors, I see anything other than the GC3/Quad/MAX and Trackman are random number generators.

Garmin X50 isn't accurate and if my Fenix 8 is anything to go by, they have shockingly poor software.

I'd rather have no launch monitor than one that's giving me the wrong distances/spin/shotshape etc.

To conclude

If a PRGR is saying you're swinging 3mph faster than last week, you actually are. I have great trust in its numbers as I usually max out at the exact same mph using it on consecutive days.

The distance numbers should be ignored. But I never wanted it for that anyway.

GCQuad does not record dry swings. The PRGR saves me the +5000 Euro to upgrade to the GCQuadMax for that feature.
