Graphite iron shaft like px lz 6.5?

PX LZ has some kick to it.  MMT would be a good alternative as it has a bit of kick to it and I find it to be more stable than the LZ.

I have a demo 125 mmt tx I’ve tried in a couple of different heads and always dislike the feel.  Turns out I have a PW shaft, and have always tried it in a 9 iron…..so hard stepped x1 without realizing.  Going to build it up in a pw tonight and give it a whirl.

I would give the MMT 125 a try in stiff flex.

I think that would be more of what you're looking for.

I might do that as well.  My 7 iron ss when getting “fit” for some pxg 0317 cbs was 95-97 mph.

I’ve had my best rounds with px 7.0.  They are getting to be a lot of work and tiresome by hole 13 or 14 of the day (I’m 43). Moved down to px 6.5 and it was meh, especially in the long irons.  Tried px lz on a whim and it felt nice.

@Pnwpingi210 Ok, well knowing your ss for your 7 iron changes things.  Lol

I would go MMT 125 TX straight in.  That's what I'm currently playing and I came from PX 6.5 for 20 years. My 6 iron swing is 98-99mph.  Good luck, they are awesome shafts and have really helped with my wrist, elbow and should pain.

Are you after something with more feel?  The Axiom is another good graphite shaft that's pretty stable and feels a bit smoother than the MMT, IMO.

The closest shaft to the  PX 7.0 would be the LAGP L-Series.  It's very stout, lacks feel and is mid-low launch and low spin.  Complete opposite of PX LZ.

Nope.  Tried them and while they were very stable and straight, they seemed to spin more and launch higher for me.  Lost a club length of distance and didn’t love how butt heavy they felt.

If the mmts don’t work i might go there next.   Feel is not something I’m traditionally searched for in an iron shaft, but these lz have a nice kick that suits my timing well.  Thinking if I can find a graphite equivalent that’s the same weight and maybe a touch more stable with some kick it might be worth a try.

Wow, I saw the opposite when tested them.  Lower launch and spin to the MMT that's in my bag.  It wouldn't hurt to buy a single Axiom 125X if you can source one, test it and take it from there.

I tend to flip when I struggle with timing.  My guess is I was flipping the La golf setup.

Any challenge managing swing weight in the shorter irons with the MMTs? What are you using in your GW/SW/LW?

Haven’t put them on a scale, but they feel fine to me… I went with the same MMT 125TX in my PW, UW, 54 & 58 (glide 4.0).  My assumption is it’s the PW shaft in all trimmed to length

Hit the MMT in the pw this morning (only shaft I had).

The MMT has a nice feel.  To me it had more flex/load, but less of a snap/kick so easier to time than the px lz.

ball flight was vey straight, with an x100 flight that starts low and rises to a peak.  Appears to be less spin as it carried a solid 8-10 yards farther than the px lz. (145 vs 135).  Also could step on it and the ball went farther vs higher.

swing weight - the MMT are head heavy.  Was coming in an almost d9 at .5 over.  The lz was at d4.5.

Will probably test a bit more and make the switch in the winter.  The definitely want to get the build right.

Interesting on swing weight… lz 1/2” over as well?

My irons came out to D3 but they are 1/4 inch short.  Eric over at New Level at the time told me that the MMT would swing weight out heavier than most shafts.  Seems like a a good deal of weight is located towards the tip.

This makes sense.  I can adjust the weight on the back of the cb 0317 but I hear it’s a bit of a pain.

That's kinda odd.

I have 3 sets of MMT shafts, including MMT 125s (my favorite) also SM6 wedges with MMT 125TX 8i shafts in them.  MMT 125 9i and PW are essentially the same shaft except for 1/2" difference. From a testing perspective, they should be nearly the same.  I also have MMT 125s in 3 other PW, Gap and LW, at 9i length.

Interesting.  I thought they were discreet taper tip shafts for 3-pw.  My memory isn’t the greatest, it’s been a couple of years since my tried the shaft in a 9 iron.

You put the 8i in the wedges to maintain flex progression? Did I read your post correctly and you have other wedges with the 9i shaft? How does the 8i vs 9i compare in the wedges? Any meaningful difference in flex, feel and/or spin rates?

Thx

weight might be an issue but the SteelFiber FC 115 would have similar feel. Hard stepping those might be the answer

I recently reshafted my irons with SteelFiber i110cw X Flex, my elbows were killing me for a while, since reshafting the pain is almost completely gone, in terms of performance, for me, they are much more accurate, dispersion is way better, spin rates and flight are lower, plus a bit lighter than the X100 130g I had, I honestly gained 6-8 yards per club, looking at getting i125cw X Flex for the wedges, currently playing TI S200s in them, hopefully those work for you, the Axioms have great reviews (there is a thread here about them) but they are on the pricy side...

You read that right.  Many years back, before wedge shafts, pros used trimmed 8i shafts in wedges to get needed spin.  There's a thread on this very subject; Howard explains in detail how it's done.

I have MMT 105s in 3-PW 620 MBs, and MMT 125TX 8 irons in SW & LW, trimmed to 35.5” length, same as PW length.  Can't say how 8 or 9 shafts differ, as a feel player never did a comparison.  Maybe I wasn't clear enough, never used 9i shafts in wedges, only 9i-36” length for PW, SW, LW.  Those clubs, including 9i, are feel clubs for me, where swing length varies.  I have 2 MMT 105s Scoring wedge shafts, think they are 113g each but pulled them, don't need extra spin or height.  Went back to S200 shafts in wedges.

My current set of SM9 PW, SW, LW are 35.5”, with S200 and progressively heavier SW's.
