Best uses driver past couple years

Looking for an upgrade semi affordable don't feel like paying $500 up on a new driver, was looking at maybe epic speed or max ls

Many will say the G400 line, I think the Callaway Maverik line was very under rated, a lot of the Titleist TS lines hold up well, the Cobra LTD line from last year was a beast and they discount heavy, SIM drivers are still popular, the newer Srixon ZX drivers performed well but don't get much love so can be had cheap.

 

Lots of options out there, best is subjective to the user.

I put a Mavrik Subzero in the bag at the end of last year that I got for a great deal on CPO. Goodness is it a great driver.

I would say epic speed. They can be had for a couple hundred bucks and with CPO etc you can find one with a very good/upgraded shaft. It is such a good driver. Good size, neutral appearance and has an addictive sound.

Epic Max LS was a good one, my first Callaway product after several Taylormade drivers. I would still play the Epic Max LS but i got an unbeatable offer for a Rogue ST max in winter. Sold the Epic Max after testing both drivers head to head and had only the eBay fees at the loss.

Any driver from a major manufacturer over the past few years should be good.  Callaway Preowned is a great place to buy used clubs.  I personally like the OG Sim from the past few years.

I would say G400 series, SIM, Titleist TS series, TM M2 (2016, the first one), Ping G (however, kind of loud, but forgiving), Epic series just to mention a few...

There’s only one good G400 and it was the LS version. That was a stud of a driver. But honestly, the Sim2, M6, Maverick, were all very good. 
 

To this day, nothing touches Epic Sub Zero for me. Bought one again for $80 two months ago and can’t see myself going away.

Anything from an OEM from the past 5 years is good but the Srixon ZX5 can be had, new, right now for about $190.  You can get a new Callaway Mavrik for about $250.

It's hard to go wrong with either of them.

I was a baseless PXG hater until I picked up a used PXG Proto this year for about $100.  The thing is an absolute rocketship and I've noticed much more consistency than my G410 LST.

Some good deals on the bay on epic speed ls.  Also good deals to be had on srixon zx5 and zx5 ls mkii if you are willing to put in some effort.  Mizuno drivers also tend to go for good deals, even this years model.

I got a used LTDx for under $200 on Gl*bal G*lf and it is so good. Coming from a G410 plus it was an upgrade for me.

As many others, G400max.  2nd I'd say SIM 2max.  Lots of great drivers out there, just need to find  what works best for you.

If you are looking at Callaway, I would spend a little more on CPO and get one of the Rogue ST models that suit you. Good prices still and they are very good. 
 

If you dig Cobra, like others have said, check out the LTDX. Always good deals on year old Cobra clubs and they also make a solid driver. 
 

Buying a year old is the way to go to still get newer technology but for half the price.

I picked up a brand new Mavrik Sub Zero for $165 a couple weeks ago, there was several being sold but don't know if there are any left.

Although the COR on driver's has been maxed out for years and golf clubs are obscenely overpriced these days, it would unlikely get a newer model unless I get a smoking deal from a desperate seller.  But in the off chance I lose all my golf clubs in a fire or theft and had to start over again, I would get a G400 or G400 Max as my driver.

With the right shaft, Ping G series of your choice from the last few generations or a TM m6 would be my choice. I just received my m5 Tour today from GG. I used this driver when it was new on market and hit it better than anything I’ve hit since. The G series are a touch more automatic but the m5 Tour is comparable “to me”. Guy in our group still bags a G25 with Tour AD, the shaft fits him well and the head has withstood the test of time so far.
