Impressive Broom Swing Videos

Deadaimz

Recommended Posts

I saw this video yesterday which recommended a large dust broom as a training aid. I thought it was interesting especially given the fact I've been struggling lately off the tee box. Thought I'd share and see what yalls thoughts are on the video. I tried it this morning and the feedback is incredible and is giving me different feels that I am not accustomed to.

Thanks for posting that. Really good video. He does a great job of showing the "tumble"/hands in, club head out move that I need more of in my swing.

The tumble move reminds me of Malaskas move. I like the broom because if I'm doing that move its not something I am thinking about, I'm just trying to keep it inline with the wall and on a good path without manipulation.

Right. Now, Malaska's move makes a lot of people here crazy -- but if you call it Bradley Hughes' move, it tends to sit better with some folks. LOL

I can REALLY see the action in Rickie Fowler's current swing.

Yes it does. I'm not sure if it is the same thing it just looks that way to my eye.

All of Malaska’s older videos had him doing the tumble right from the top of the swing or at least for how I was interpreting them. Unfortunately that didn’t work for anyone that didn’t lay it off excessively in transition.

Seems like everyone now is teaching it as a after halfway down move

Part 2 of the broom drill:

I found the perfect push broom for this at Home Depot for $11 - it’s not too heavy or too long, and the handle is just about the same diameter as a golf grip:

Fantastic follow up video. I'll have to make a trip to home depot.

I have seen a lot of broom drills starting with one in Golf Digest where I painted one side of the broom green and the other side red but I have never seen one like this using a push broom before.  I would say that the swing he is after will work well for a person using a cover grip (trail hand on top).  For a side on or under trail hand grip the hands will not get that low at impact and I don't believe that the turning over motion (tumble?) is necessary.  LOL could be wrong but that is my thought.

Kind of brings the broom videos with a golf club. So intresting cause im always trying to bring the handle in and up. Pretty impressive hitting the golf ball off the shaft as he does. It looks so effortless.

Now this video I'm not sure about. Maintaining downward left hand pressure on the handle through the downswing? Doing air-swings (with no ball), it feels completely different than what I do in my swing (which isn't to say that I swing correctly). I feel like the clubhead should be released downward -- that is, the wrists should uncock -- into/through the ball. This video looks to be contrary to that. Hmmm...

Yeah I have no idea tried it doing slow swings definitely foreign to the way in use to swinging. He was saying the same thing in the broom videos and the way he's able to make contact off the tee like that makes me want to do more swings like that and see if it can help with accuracy.

Nobody really good has their handle actually going down thru impact. Everyone is using trail side bend and extending coming into the ball.

Keeping pressure on the end of the shaft is a great feeling for someone who is over drawing the golf ball due to early extending.

Well I went and tried this moves at the local simulator since it is hot as can be outside. Wow just wow I'm still going left but not as violent and more in play. Hit some of my best drives there I've ever hit. This is relative to the simulator I play and practice there frequently during the dog days of summer. It uses tru golf with e6 simulation and I don't feel it's the most consistent but neither is my swing. My bad drives were 280-290 carry but my good drives were 320+. These were my best 3 of my session.

Malaska L to L. Amazing how many different ways you can explain the same thing.

So pleased to see this. Stu is my friend and golf coach and the broom vid has been a game changer for me. I didn't get it quite right to start with at first my handle track was too far away from my body past the ball, then too deep early on. Eventually got there and it was totally transformational.

Another good video. I’m assuming the next video will be “what people get wrong with the broom drill” or something to that effect.

Would imagine people have a problem with the feeling of “laying down the shaft” then tumble part and the timing of it.

I’m give him credit, he has mastered that technique as he seems to hit a lot of good shots while demonstrating his ideas.

  • Deadaimz changed the title to Impressive Broom Swing Videos

I wasn't sure how to take his teachings at first because they are very different to Monte for example. I questioned him about not actively getting the left wrist into flexion and ulner deviation and he basically said these things happen but they aren't what he wants his students to focus on. He also does not advocate keeping the back to target and lowering the arms but instead making sure the hips and torso move correctly to avoid coming over the top and focusing on the handle pressure to stay on plane. He has a good swing, teaches at least a couple of DP World Tour pros and definitely has a lot of control when demonstrating cause and effect / what happens to the impact and ball flight when you make incorrect movements, so he has my interest. Just very different to AMG and Monte....
