Players Championship should get the recognition they deserve. Take some of the power away from the other four. The field is stronger and they don't let everybody in.....

I don't think the game needs a fifth Major.

 

If it does, the last place it needs to be is in the U.S. The Australian Open would get my vote. Or a new, roving championship that spans the globe.

Just don't understand what another major, much less just slapping the "Major" label on The Players achieves.

 

If another major is added, rotate an international open or something. Still don't think anybody is asking for this though. Just Brandel making headlines

I thought brandel would be against putting more power in the hands of Pif,GA. i guess its ok as long as that 5th major is in the usa.

Any tournament can be dubbed a "major".  To be accepted as such a huge step.  The Players is probably as close as any, but it doesn't have that historic mojo.

Not a good look for several reasons, but especially:

 

Four is historical and enough. 
Players contains that goofy 17th 

Brandel’s idea is way beyond petty and spiteful.

I’m not for the Players becoming a major, but if it were to become a major it should not be counted retroactively since just knowing it’s a major would probably have changed several past outcomes.

I dont think golf needs a 5th major, the LPGA and the Evian is hilariously bad and a bunch of high ranking players have skipped it.

No, it’s the flagship event on the PGA Tour and that is how it should stay.

Not allowing the defending champion to defend because he was on the LIV, game over, no not ever 5th major, thank you PGAT! Agree that if there is a 5th major it should be outside the influence of the PGAT. Defiantly out side the USA, somewhere  in Australia or New Zealand would be great.

Yep...always thought the uspga shouldn't have been a major, like tennis it should have been the Australian open as the 4th major

It’s been considered a major for 80 years, lol, did you weigh in on that after the war?

Keep four drop the PGA give it back to the club pros, and elevate The Players.

At the end of the day the Players is just another tour event. Sure it pays more and has prestige so more guys show up, but conceptually its not that different from the Rocket Mortgage or the Fortinet championship. 

 

I would almost be inclined to say it can't be a major specifically because the tour owns it.

And the field is pretty much the same week end week out PGATour field.  The PGATour would like to have its own championship, for which in practical effect only its members are eligible, to be a major.  But the rest of the world keeps on saying no.

5th major has worked out really well for the LPGA and the Champions Tours.
