I'm heading there in a couple of weeks. What did you think about the food and which restaurants would you recommend?

Bone Valley Tavern was everyone's favorite and Sotta Terra was really good too, highlight being the Scallops at Sotta and Fish Fry Snapper at Bone Valley. The Poke Bowl is a great value and huge portion size that was top tier. Lobster Mac n Cheese just missed the boat in terms of seasoning, but high quality lobster no doubt.

The Barbacoa Tacos at Blue were FIRE.

What an unnecessarily cocky way of saying you don't hit your ball in the water!

And trust me, I've seen enough clueless bozos from commiefornia when it comes to wandering the waterside looking for balls.

Absolutely no need to bring that into an advice thread, it violates forum rules.

Bugs come out bad the second the sun disappears over the horizon. I live in Florida, not every body of water has a gator in it. However, the real thing you need to be afraid of are water moccasins, which are much harder to spot. Best advice is to only go down to the water’s edge if you don’t have to wade through long grass to do it, and if you see a ball in the water only use a club to retrieve it (no hands). The starters at Streamsong will probably remind you not to go wading around in the tall grass either for the same reason.

So a suggestion to keep an eye out for gators does not qualify as advice in an advice thread? Sounds like advice to me.

Since qualifications seem to be necessary...born, raised and lived my whole life in Florida. Guaranteed to have played more rounds of golf in Florida from Key West Golf Club to the Panhandle. Actually have never encountered a moccasin on the golf course. Plenty of gators though (if I can say that)!

P.S. There's actually crocodiles in South Florida so watch out for those too!

Wow, I can't believe a question about bugs turned in this direction? Well let's go there! I was actually born and raised in AZ and only moved to CA for a job 14 years ago. I do agree with you about how left CA is, which I am not. Don't assume things you don't know. If you are a conservative your making us look bad! I also never claimed that I don't hit the ball in the water. I have played in Orlando and have seen my share of gators. Although my question about bugs stemmed from my up coming trip to Streamsong where we are planning 36 holes for three straight days and I was concerned about the evening when bugs usually start to come out. It was that simple of a question.

Just as simple as a post suggesting to keep an eye out for gators to someone from out of state.

It would have been if that was your original comment, but it wasn't (see above)!

I didn’t say qualifications were necessary…I was responding to your ridiculously non-factual comment that every single non-saltwater body of water has a gator in it.

But your claim you’ve never seen a water moccasin proves the point I was trying to make: you’re more likely to see a gator coming than a water moccasin.

Boy this place is sensitive. Italianstallion? more like a ponybolgna.

My apologies for simply pointing out that it is important to look out for gators on golf courses in Florida to someone from out of state in response to a question about bugs on golf courses in Florida. I had no idea that gators and bugs are so far off and unrelated in topic categories that they should not be mentioned together in the same thread. I will do my best to try harder next time. Carry on!

  • 2 weeks later...

I just return from a three day four night stay at Streamsong. Two of my friends and I shared a Parlor Suite and the accommodations were amazing. If there was any negative, it was only that the Suite was located at the furthest point from the elevator (not a big deal). I terms of restaurants and food, we had the opposite experience from everyone else. We stopped at Johnson's BBQ on the way in from Orlando and it was so so. Our first dinner at the lodge was at Canyon Lake Steakhouse and two of us had the Cowboy Ribeye and the other had the Fillet with a nice bottle of Pinot Noir. We also ordered three sides that were top notch (Brussel Sprouts, Cream Corn and Mushroom's & Onions. In our opinion, they were all excellent along with our waitress. We finished it off with desert and again it was just great.

Our second dinner was at SottoTerra and again the food and service were excellent. Breakfast and lunch were typical, nothing to mention. On our third night we drove into Tampa and had dinner at the Hard Rock (wasn't impressed). I would have rather had dinner at the Steakhouse again.

Overall it was a great trip, we played 108 holes in 3 days. The Black course was the least favorite of all. For us it was just too goofy golf especially the greens. I will definitely go back and the Chain should open by the end of the year.

This is interesting.  So I've played a couple Hanse renovated courses and they were amazing, but I have not played an original design.  I was at The Golf Club of Tennessee in the last couple months and toured the new Hanse course that opens next spring.  There were some really goofy holes, but particularly of concern were some of the greens.  A few were straight up ridiculous and labeled "a mess" by others who had seen them.  There were many holes and green complexes that an individual compared to SS Black, so your "goofy golf" comment now makes sense to me.  I was shocked to see how non-traditional his work was considering how stellar his renovations of iconic properties has been.
