Help! New irons or re-shaft!

Any Help appreciated!!! Currently play srixon z585 irons with $taper 110 regular shafts. Really enjoy these srixon iron's. My dilemma is, I am getting older,59, and my golfer-tennis elbow is getting worse. So, time to move on to graphite. I have a bunch of store credit, so, do I buy a new set of zx5 mkii with recoil 95 reg, or buy recoil shafts, and have my z585's reshafted? Thanks. Also any comparison between the two appreciated!

I went through something similar last year and ended up buying used certified pre owned irons with graphite and selling the steel shafted ones.  It didn't make much sense to invest in new shafts for the older irons just to end up with clubs that had lost value due to being reshafted. 

 

It took a few shafts to find the right ones.  Be sure the Recoils will work for you prior to purchase.

Get fitted for ZX5, make sure the Recoils will work. Then trade in the Z585 set.

 

This is a major changeover for you: get ZX5 plus shaft that works - sometimes a reshaft can be disappointing.

is there a big difference in the recoils and my current $tapers?

You’re at the beginning of the learning curve of looking for the right shaft/head combination,  if you’re looking for someone to say, “use this shaft , it’ll get you what you want”….

 

Thats not how it works.   

testing, fitting and trial and error is the way to go.

Yes, so many graphite shaft options now, plus I’d say the ZX5 is a nice upgrade. Or go mark ii.

Just changed to P790s with Recoils from 919 HMPs with NS Modus 105s.

Still getting used to the Recoils and P790s but I have developed a nasty golfers elbow (left arm, I play right handed). Don’t know if it’s coincidence but damn, I’m in pain.

Anyway, OP I still say don’t reshaft and get the new heads.

Easier on the elbows and wrists.  Recoils tend to launch pretty high like the $-taper.

The only correct answer is do both. Use the credit get a new set with the recoils. Then also by some for your current set. That way you have two trusty reliable sets

If you like $-taper, why not go PGI/TGI from KBS?

 

I have no idea what your store charges to reshaft. If you like the heads now, why not stay, and reshaft?

 

I am in a similar boat---reshafting (soon) X100 to LAGP L4s---in the hopes of getting elbow and other joint pain down to a dull roar.  But I'm not really looking at getting out of these i210s.  Now, ask me in a year or two---with a lot more rounds in---and I might have a different opinion, lol.

Worth it to do an iron fitting to see which graphite shafts work best for you, lots of options

Have tried Recoils plenty in different irons, not so much $taper. But for shafts of the same weight, $tapers will be more:

Recoils are really awesome graphite iron shafts. That said, would suggest you find an OEM set that came stock with those shafts and test them. Alternatively, go have your 8i re-shafted with graphite and compare to your 7i. You’ll probably want to add 1/2” to the 8i to compensate for swing-weight loss. I betcha it flies right past your 7.
