Coming out of a slump.

Seem to go though this almost every year. At some point about mid-season. Biggest mistake I keep repeating in trying to get out of this funk is, I forget that I'm a feel player, and try to think technically. Then, as my shots get worse and worse, so does my confidence. 

 

I don't think I'm out of this funk yet, but I have made improvements, simply by going back to playing by feel. Then of course, as you see results with one good shot after another, my confidence seems to return as well. 

 

Not going to matter, as I'm sure the cycle will repeat again at some point. 

 

An interesting example I have to this is, here in the northeast, golf season is over around the end of October. There is one golf course not for from me, that is somewhat insulated from Winter weather. They're open all year, and get very little snow. Usually a couple of times a Winter, will play 9 with my Brother.  I of course go with no expectations, and almost always play incredibly well. No totally sure why, but it has something to do with not thinking too much. Anyway, hope this helps anyone struggling that might require the same fix.

It's called erasing bad muscle memory and it works very well for some.  I too am a feel player and don't like getting too technical with my swing.  Not golfing for an extended period of time can reset muscle memory.  Your brain still knows how to swing but the old/bad habits can be put on the back burner so to speak and you start with a clean slate.  It can always come back around of course.  I take 2-4 weeks off from golf from time to time once I see that my swing is heading in a bad direction just to reset.  Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't.
