Keegan got cornholed. He brings much more to the table than Burns (right now), inside and outside the ropes. JT should have just recused himself,

period. I'm thinking I may need to add a bible study class to my resume to increase my sales closing ratio.

One of the funniest things about this to me is that super dweeb Zach Johnson is part of some exclusive social circle that is hard to break into.

Its not hard to break into, just play golf for a living, win some tournaments and a Major or two doesn't hurt. I think they'd called the Sea Island Mafia.

Don’t worry guys, JT isn’t actually going to play. He’s just there to select Team USA’s official joggers and hoodies. Sheesh.

Dude are you serious right now?  You hate the fact that Zach Johnson picked Koepka?

I wouldn’t have picked him over Keegan or Glover.  His head is elsewhere.  His game isn’t Sharp. And he brings LIV media drama.

I don’t agree. We play a decent amount of foursomes in the UK.

In foursomes before you even start, deciding who takes the odds or evens can make or break your chances. You might not have a putt for several holes then have a 5 footer for a half. You are also counting on your partner to be able cope with where you going to put him and vice versa.

4 ball can be even harder, it might be 2 against 1 for most of the round. You don’t play against the course at any point.

That’s why the guys who got picked, got picked.

In your second paragraph you explain how partners discuss their strategy on how to best play the golf course! Should they change their order of play before the match if they hear what their opponents are doing? Do they have a plan? Or are they just reactionaries?

I’ve played Fourball match at gross for 30 years. Most often you need birdies to win holes. I have a plan for how to play every hole - I want a good look at birdie. Play the golf course!

Example: you have the honor. It’s a short drivable par 4. On the tee, your opponents have irons in hand. Are you saying you react to that one way or another?

The bottom line is this: you have a plan. You know you need to make birdies. You look at the course and figure out a way to make it happen.

I don’t understand this “you don’t play against the course at any point”

You don't adjust based on what your partner has just done?

I promise you that all golf shots (rounds of golf, tournaments, fourball or foursomes formats etc...)should be player against the golf course.

Sure depending on a player's status within a round or tournament, or where an opponent's ball may lay during match play, a given shot's strategy may change, but it's still always a player executing a shot against the golf course.

What other good things is Keegan specifically bringing to the table inside/outside the ropes? Consistently high finishes and week in week out great play is not one of them.

Of course you adjust your targets based on your position- whether in foursomes or Fourball. You play the course in front of you. Sometimes par is the best you can do. But in high level play you shouldn’t be playing safe and hoping your opponent makes bogey. Hope is not a plan. They can chip in. Or hole out out of a bunker, or whatever. In Fourball, because I am typically playing second all the time because I was longer, I loved it when my partner had a lot of GIR’s. I typically would not change my lines much, but it was comforting. But I also had partners who couldn’t execute - they were going to “go for it” all day and were basically ball in pocket. No help. Play the course wisely. Have a plan. Hit greens and give yourself good looks no matter what your opponents are doing.

Burns is one of the best putters in the world. If partnering him w/ Scottie helps Scheffler play freely, I think its a great choice. It's not like Burns was some way "out of the money" selection. He was 12th in Ryder Cup pts. He's 21st in OWGR and the 13th ranked American. He's the 19th ranked player based on data golf's strokes gained metric and the 10th ranked American. He has a win this year.

He's resume easily justifies consideration and his relationship w/ Scheffler is a pretty easy tie breaker. Why wouldn't you want the best player on your squad to be as comfortable and confident as possible? Scheffler needs to be a killer because 3 of the 4 best players in this tournament are European.

I'm as much a data and merit based guy as you'll find, but relationships and chemistry matter in team building. Do people not remember the comical failure of Hal Sutton putting Phil and Tiger together?

As a competitor playing against him, he’s painful to watch. At least a 4 to 5 shot disadvantage to be paired with him. Equally distracting for the partner in his matches but a unique advantage in the singles. If I were paired with him on the final day, I’d just forfeit the point.

Keegan is 4-1 playing w/ Phil and 0-2 in singles play.

Different dynamics. Brooks is still a PGA member. Sergio, Poulter, Westwood, etc have resigned from the DPWT. It's not about Luke Donald folding, those guys aren't eligible. Luke couldn't pick them if he wanted to.

That’s debatable. The exhibition tour players still believe they are eligible.

Incorrect, maybe not. Anecdotal absolutely. He would cost me at least 5 shots, maybe 10.

That's you not touring pro's.

Otherwise it's pretty easy to check the round by round numbers by event with who he was paired with on the PGA Tour website if so inclined. CB or any other tour player is not costing anybody 5 shots/round by simply being paired with them.

I just looked it up, Colin Morikawa shot 72 on Sunday at the FedEx and he should have shot 67. And he wasn’t “paid” by Keegan to shoot 72.
