Highland Pines is a pretty solid course. They use zoysia grass which is one of my personal favorites, greens are always lightning fast and true, course is in very good condition and lots of fun holes.

HP is a public course with "private members".  Not exactly sure what that costs and what you get for your money - I assume priority tee times. Just checked and there were plenty of Saturday afternoon tee times available for the public this weekend. Assume members get the morning times.

 

First you need to figure out where you will live as that will be a significant factor in what club you will join.  Traffic can be an issue and if your commute to the club is impacted it might keep you from using the club.

I'll actually be very close to HP.  Their membership does give you priority access to tee time and I believe unlimited play.  They have packages that allows you to play other Tour 18 courses like Augusta Pine.

I don't know any specifics but have always heard that Kingwood is a pretty good place to be a member - quite a few course options.  Golf Club of Houston is also a good choice - two courses in NE Houston with a nice practice facility,  and another course in SW Houston ((Blackhawk) you can play.

Checked out Highland Pines today. Course looks to be in great shape. Members do get 10 days advanced booking. It’s 9k initiation and under 600 monthly. You get to play the other tour 18 courses. 20 cart fee.

9k initiation for a semi private seems bonkers to me, but I guess that’s the state of golf these days

Welcome to Houston golf.  Pricing is off the deep end even on the beat to death courses. Also, be prepared for slow rounds.

For several courses all within your area and under 600 monthly, it's not that bad compared to the other private clubs around the area. It's about as much as your typical lower-mid end private club in Houston atm for young executive prices. Those same clubs for full equity are going for 15-20k and closer to 800-1k monthly. It's a good deal, even if it's a semi-private.

Good luck - I’ve thought about doing something similar and buying a piece of land to make an outdoor members only range with the hope of just breaking even so I had somewhere to practice. I will check it out once you guys open for sure.

My neighbor inquired a year or so ago. He said they were really pushing real estate ownership for new members, so will likely need to factor that into the initiation fees. Don't know about junior memberships, but I think a lot of the high end and in demand clubs have removed that option - everyone pays full price. Played out there in November. New clubhouse is beautiful and the course was in really great shape. Would be a fantastic place to spend the day with family. Maybe one day...

Recently heard bluejack at 225k and 30k annual dues. Young exec is 25% up front and rest spread across years until 40th bday.

My family and I are relocating to Houston this Fall/Winter and are interested in joining a golf or country club. We’re looking in the Cypress area for reference. With two younger kids we’d like something more family oriented and close-ish in proximity. I read that Pine Forest is a good place to look. Not sure of the cost of Pine Forest, but we’d like to keep the initiation fee under $10K. Any recs on other places to look into?
