Thinking of cutting down my Scotty from 35" to 34"

I got a used 2020 Scotty Cameron Special Select Newport 2 the other day that is 35".  However, it came with a pair of 35g weights in the head instead of the standard 30g.  Now, on the good news side, I prefer a 34" putter anyway which I believe the 35" would be standard for.

 

Anyway, I've altered putters and clubs in the past, but never a Scotty.  Is there any good reason not to do so?  The only practical thing I can think of is that there is a shaft label that says it's a Scotty 35" putter and the engraved serial number that I checked online and matches to a 35" version.  Is that a big deal to preserve?

 

The alternate option would be to get a new shaft and grip and just replace that vs grip pull, cut, and put grip back on.

 

Curious as to what other Scotty owners have done that altered their putter length.  Maybe I'm just hung up on the shaft band.  Thanks!

Here is what I would do.  If you have the ability to, pull the shaft, send the head back to Scotty and get a 34 inch shaft and new grip for $75 plus shipping back to you, which was pretty expensive (like $30) but it will be perfect and then sell the original shaft on BST.

Thanks for that option, wasn't aware.  True, that would keep it authentic.  I am a cheapskate, so hope to DIY one way or another.  We'll see.

I'm confused. You want to preserve a shaft band that says 35" even though you are cutting it down to 34"? 

 

Also, the length is about 1/4 shorter than what is published. So a 35" is closer to 34 3/4".

If you're planning on gaming it for a while/keeping it who cares really? If you're not sure why not just choke up 1" on it for a while to make sure you like it before going through all the hassle?

Just feels a little different choking down feeling a different section of the grip.  Not a rush to change it, but might since all my other putters are 34".  I made the change from 35 to 34 a couple years ago and definitely prefer a little shorter.

Yeah, maybe if not a Scotty, I'd never even care at all about the shaft band.  Wish they didn't pre-print the length on them.  Not a biggie I suppose.

 

I measured this one at 888.5 mm from end of grip to middle of the bottom of sole, so pretty spot on at 35".

You can get the length shaft bands on ebay if that's big of a deal after you cut it down.  It's not like this thing is a 8K circle T though, I understand they're still expensive putters comparably speaking - just cut it down and use it.

I bought an old GoLo that was 35” and I like my putters at 33”. I figured I’m going to play it, so I bought some heavier weights and cut it down.  If I decide to get rid of it, it’s old and wasn’t the expensive to begin with,so I wouldn’t lose much. 
 

Yours is older too, cut it down to where you like it and put it in the bag!

I've owned my oil can Newport for 25, years, and have gone through 3 shafts and 5 grips. But it's always been in my bag.

WHAT?

Cutting down a shaft and add a new grip is silly easy, so why send it to have it done?
PS its the same shaft, no matter play length....

This is GOLFWRX!   People who buy Scotty Cameron putters want the shaft sticker and official putter grip.  Look at BST where Scotty Cameron putter grips go for $100

I had a Scotty shortened and later sold it. I described it appropriately and didn't have trouble moving it for about what I had paid (which was about 1/2 of retail for a putter you could barely tell was used). 

 

I wouldn't mess with something worth thousands of dollars, but these are $400 new. Whatever value hit you take (if at all) seems like it should be secondary to your own enjoyment of the club.
