if I like the Nippon N.S. PRO 950 in longer irons but also to have heavier shafts in wedges and scoring clubs....

I was trying out a set of irons from a friend at the golf club with good old Nippon NS Pro 950 GH shafts. and what should I say, they feel so good especially with the 6 and 5iron. but for my personal preference I would like to play heavier shafts in PW and i9 / i8 and maybe i7 as well. at the moment I am playing AMT Black S300 shafts at my frist iron set and Nippon Modus 120 at my 2nd iron set. I like the Modus 120 more than the AMT but only from PW to i8. from i7 I start to hit the AMT better.

 

If i would switch from AMT to Nippon, would it be completely stupid to go with NS Pro 1150 for GW and PW and NS pro 1050 for i9 / i8 / i7 and finally the i6 and i5 with the NS pro 950GH or HT and there is a V90 version as well, very confusing web page from nippon shafts... the iron set would be a Wilson D9 forged with realtive traditional weights but stronger lofts (i7 is 30°)

I believe the Nippon 1150 is a different profile than the 1050 and 950. The 1050 and 950 are basically the same profile but lighter weight. The 1150 has a stiffer butt section.

 

But if that works, go for it.

The 1150 is way stiffer feeling than the 1050 or 950, but in a wedge it might not make that much difference to certain players.  It makes for a pretty good wedge shaft if the weight fits, but it is also very counter balanced.  Some may feel that, some may not.  To me the 1150 feels very firm, probably because the butt end is very stiff.

I wonder if the 950GH WF set would fit your requirements?  It's an ascending weight shaft, but it's not an enormous change from longest shaft to shortest. 

 

Might be hard to find a set.  I got one at Billy Bob's a year or two ago, but I got the impression they were closing them out.  Someone might have them, they're still on the Nippon site...

The NS PRO 950WF  = Weight Flow is still available, and an ascending weight shaft model, and the same profile as the 950GH..., but is just a few grams heavier in the shorter irons, so it may not give you the added weight and feel that you are looking for in your shorter irons.

 

The 950GH model profile is"

 

BUTT = Mid-Stiff

MID = Mid

TIP = Mid-Soft

 

It may be hard to find a model like that in a heavier weight for the shorter irons, but if you match up the 950GH profile, and find your desired weight, you will have a winning combo.
