Release: throw, whip or stop?

so the release.  I can think of only three possible ways the club head will be released out of lag towards the golf ball, all three of these ways I have seen people do, videos made, people talking about it.  

 

1. pause the upper body pivot at a certain point, which causes the arms, shaft and club head to continue moving and release out/down
2. throw the club head out in some way
3. Parametric acceleration principles to whip the club head out

 

Or perhaps some combinations of the above...

 

Strangely, I had never heard about parametric acceleration until recently, but right now it seems to me like the best way and I'm surprised more people are not discussing it.  Seems like people only bring this up when talking about long drive hitting, etc, but I think this is relevant for everyone at all levels, not just those looking for super high club head speed.  This is about efficiency.  I think it's the only true way to release the club head in a passive relaxed way for one thing that will have the right timing (not too early) and without losing  speed from pausing the pivot; and without throwing the wrists or right forearm to proactively try to "throw" the club head.  It also results in a flattened angle of attack as approaching the ball, which means more forgiveness and consistency ultimately, easier  to get compression.

Forces occur that we can't see or actively attempt to do. One of those is parametric acceleration. What we can do is attempt to throw the club. On a proper path and with proper sequencing, this will cause the whipping effect to naturally occur. The throw effectively gets the clubhead out in front of the chest, yes.

Lag is in a plane parallel to the club face.  What happens near impact is in the plane perpendicular to the face, and/or the plane orthogonal to the shaft.

 

Or so it seems to me.

 

I see the word release used to describe:

 

1. loss of the angle between the left forearm and the shaft

 

2. loss of forward shaft lean/flexion of left wrist

 

3. closing of the club face

 

The problem is people seem to seek delay of 2 by unduly delaying 1.

 

But’s that’s just how it seems to me.

 

It further seems to me that what is released from what (a question glossed over mostly) relates to none of the above.  Instead during the downswing the role of the arms and hands is to resist the forces applied to the golfer by the club, and the subjectively felt release is the cessation of that resistance.

Golf clubs are purpose-designed. The balance, weight distribution, center of gravity, etc are placed intentionally. The club will release if your hands and body let it. If you're trying to steer it into position it'll fight you.
