Players iron head recommendation for high launch, high spin player

I had a fitting with Titleist not too long ago. Outside with ProV1s and a trackman. My numbers were similar - 95-96 mph with a 7 iron. Spin with the “traditional” irons (t100, 620 mb, 620 cb) was over 8000 rpm’s and I was losing considerable distance.  The fitter ended up putting me in KBS 130x and the t100s iron, which brought my numbers to near optimal. Problem was that I didn’t like the feel of the combo and never really hit them well. I found myself fighting a two way miss and struggling with directional consistency nearly every round.  
 

That was six months ago and I am now hitting my irons as well as I ever have. The key for me to drop spin and height was actually to go to a weaker shaft. Given my swing speed, the fitter was putting my in shafts of a similar stiffness (x100, PX 6.5, modus 120x, etc). The KBS was the best of those, but it never really suited me. I actually went all the way to DGR400 (a slightly heavier shaft than r300) and KBS Tour 110, and started playing well again. My launch was noticeably lower (even to the eye) and spin was no longer an impediment to distance, even in the “traditional” lofted heads. 
 

The regular flex shafts are a little loose in the long irons, so I am tinkering with slightly firmer shafts (currently LZ 6.0). I am playing well with them.  Bottom line is that a softer shaft ended up being my “fix.”  Maybe try it yourself.

Interesting!  My pxg fit put me in kbs tour x as I actually spun them lower than 6.5 ox x1.  They were “fine” up to 7 iron  but like you I had a two way miss above that.

 

Can you still buy r400 new?  Or do you need to find a used set?

New sets pop up from time to time on the bay.
 

I feel like the stiffness and even weight of the shaft influence my release. My guess is that I add loft (or maybe even flip a touch) with the stiffer shaft to prevent digging.  Conversely, I feel like I may deloft a bit with the regular flexes but the weaker shaft deflects a bit and keeps me out of the dirt. I can play with both, but feel like the weaker flex allows me to swing “my swing” more freely. 
 

The one thing I definitely know is that anything with an s300 flex designation is absolutely useless in my hands. Ball speed goes way down and spin goes way up. It’s almost unplayable.

Px 6.0 currently.  Most of the benefits of px 6.5 and not as much work in the long irons.
 

Modus 130 s/x and tour v 120/130 are others I’ve played to some success recently.

 

 

Try some C Tapers they will definitely help with launch and spin.

I only hit the 7 iron, but man it frames the ball so well.  Little bit bigger than the mp32 at 7 iron.  I looked at the 4 iron and it’s much more inviting than the mp32.

I mean get the right shaft and I feel like you found your answer.
