Replacing a 6 iron with a 6 hybrid

My Mizuno JPX HMP 6 iron has 25 degrees and it is my 170-175 club.  I am thinking of switching to. 25 degree hybrid that is about an inch longer. I am looking for an higher ball flight and better recovery from the rough.  Are they like to be similar as far as distance is concerned?  The hybrid is adjustable about 1.5 +- degrees.  However, it doesn’t seem to change things much.  Is that degree change even meaningful?  Thanks.

I have a 23degree 6 iron . Strong 💪 I know. Replaced it with a 27 degree 6 hybrid dialed down to 26. And it goes as long and higher than the six iron. The gapping works for me. Hit my 6 hybrid about 165 yards .

I am not as fast as you guys but using a 26-27* 6i at std length I can usually carry it around 150.  I just recently got fitted for irons and we decided to start with a 7i 31* and then go with a G430 6h which is 30* and std length of 38.75" which carried about 152 on normal swings and up to 158 when I hit the high draw. 

For reference I play a 26* hybrid at 39 3/8" and its usually my 165 club.

25 degree hybrid is more like 5i. My actual 5h is 24.

I replaced my 4,5,6 and 7 irons with the same loft and length hybrids. The distance is a few more yards then the corresponding iron. But they fly higher and stop faster on the greens.

Great posts, but golf really is a stupid game...

I'll just mention 2 examples

1.  5h goes farther than 5i..for gods sake just # the iron and the hybrid that go the same distance the friggin same #..but it is marketing

2. Guys buy new stronger lofted iron sets so they can brag how far they can hit their new jacked up pw, but now they cant carry a 1,2,3,4,5,6 and maybe even a 7 iron..but man, can they kill that pw

I bought Qi10 (standard)Rescue 5 & 6 hybrids not long ago. I feel my 6 hybrid goes as far as my 5 iron but with a higher ballflight. My 5 hybrid goes about 10-15 yards further than my 5 iron. I'm already liking them as it helps with some forced carry shots to the greens.

Even the nominal degrees rating shouldn’t really be taken into account until you hit the hybrids and compare them to your 6. Due to head design, CG, dynamic loft, etc being so different between the clubs you won’t be able to tell if the hybrid gets you what you’re looking until you hit and compare.

The 923 FliHi hybrid is a direct iron replacement and they are money. You can have it built with the same shaft as your irons. I have a 4&5 FliHi with 950gh NEO same as my irons. Gapping is dead on

My 5 iron is also only 27 degrees but it goes plenty long enough with loads of control, that is the advantage of playing traditional lofted irons.

A hybrid with same loft/length as your 6i should fly higher given the more rearward the COG of the hybrid compared to the iron. Mizuno usually builds their hybrids to same length as iron it is replacing. See Song Dog's comments above.

I run a 7h (29*) as a 6i (29.5) replacement. Easy swings give it actual 6i distances. I can get it out to 4i distances as needed. I also have a 5i replacement 6h (26*) that can almost reach my 7w.

As a male golfer ages, the more headcovers appear in their bags. I am amazed how many OEMs offer a 7H now, even in left handed.

I moved from a 5-iron (25 degrees) to a 24 degree Titleist 5 hybrid and I'm not looking back. Distance is a half-club longer, but it's so much more versatile. Better out of the rough. Better from the tee. More options in escape situations. I've used it to chip on light rough a couple of times. And because the ball flight is higher, it not only is easier to hit into greens, but it allows you to dial down the distance without the ball going too flat.

I have tried just about every 27-31* Hybrid out there but always seem to end up back in a normal 6i in that 26-27* loft range.  

For me I like to use my 6i to play the ball back and hit the low draw when under/behind trees.  With the hybrid I struggled with this shot.  

 

Also with the hybrid I feel like if I was trying to hit the 150 yd shot, sometimes it would go 150 and other times you would nuke it 165 out of nowhere if you flushed it. 

I have tried the JPX Fli Hi iron replacements and found them too flat with not enough descent angle.  

 

I know as I continue to age, more hybrids will eventually come but I stop at my 26* 5h now and then use a 27* 6i and they gap off well.  160-165 (5h) and 150 (6i)

I've tried a 6h a few times. My head just can't get around that much loft on that much head size. It's clearly a me issue.

I imagine these clubs would blow your mind Eleven hybrids. They are not for everyone either. I would love to give them a try, but you can't demo them in the US. Nice bag in your signature.

My 6 hybrid is way easier than a 6 iron to me anymore! If and when you find one that works, you’ll most likely never look back!

I have found Ping hybrids go the same distance as the same model/number iron.

Average distance on the hybrid is usually better than the iron.
