Wilson D9 Forged pushing Swing Weight higher…

Recommended Posts

Hi. I would like to bring the swing weight of my Wilson D9F 2 point’s higher by adding head weight.
I could pull the shafts and put extra weight plugs in, or I could stick some lead tape at the backside of the head. If the weight is directly behind the center of the head I guess it would be better? But for a weight the need to stay there for the rest of the using time, I would like something that is invisible.
the D9F head is having a glued metal plate at the backside. Does anybody have the experience with disassemble that one? It sticks very good, not easy to come off without any damage.
My idea was, take that plate away and stick some extra weight underneath and place the plate back where is was. Unfortunately there exists no detailed exploded drawing of the head.

If you don’t want to use lead tape and you have steel shafts, the easiest solution is tungsten powder down the shaft followed by a small cork with some epoxy smeared on the end.  Way easier than pulling and reshafting.  There are several online places to buy what you need to accomplish this.  BTW, 2 swing weight points is only about 4 gms.  With that small of amount of mass, it wouldn’t really matter where you put the lead tape.  If you decided to go that route.

If you want invisible...either pull the shafts or use tungsten like the posted said above.

Dont pull the badges or anything...they are usually stuck on and pretty annoying to pull off and stick back on without damaging them.

No.  Not even a little bit.   For that little amount of weight,  it wont  make any difference where you place it.

If you don't like the look of lead tape just use tip weights.   Or only if it's a steel shaft, the easiest would be tungsten powder and cork down the shaft.

I have a specific question:

I decided to reshaft and switch to graphite. Once I assemble all heads new, I have the freedom to adjust the Swing weight as I want to.
if I go to the range with the old shaft and stick some weight on the head and try out my ideal SW, in this case it is only for this shaft, right…? It can feel completely different with another shaft especially if this shaft is made of another material?

how exact is the SW calculating only by weight the complete club and measure the balance point and use a online calculator?

Correct - although it has nothing to do with changing material.  It's more about changing shaft weight that can lead to the different feel or the need to adjust what the best fit might be for swing weight (assuming you're not changing playing length as well - that could trigger a need to change swing weight as well).

Yes, if you don't have a scale, that's a decent alternative.   Applies to glued after the build or dry fit during the build.
