PXG Gen 6 XP Iron Reviews

I just ordered a set of the PXG Gen 6 XP irons for a retirement gift to myself. I see all kinds of posts on the Players irons but I wanted to see what people were thinking about the XP series. I've heard nothing but good about them so I'm hoping for the best.

If you're looking for the extra distance as well as forgiveness. And don't mind the look of a slightly larger club head this is the best PXG offers. 

 

I don't see how you could go wrong here.

 

Side note: Don't know of you know this or how tall you are but the XP's are 1/2" longer than the P's (players iron).

Thanks. I'm 71 so I want high and straight. I did notice the length and got them made-1/2". I have a set of Mizuno 921 tours for the times I feel like punishing myself. 😁

Not far behind you at 66. Make the game as easy as possible and the XP's will do it for you.

I'm excited. And since I'm a veteran the price was a good as any irons out there.

I believe PXG measures using a 60 degree sole angle, which results in the clubs being shorter than some others like Ping or Mizuno.

They didn’t spin enough for me.  I couldn’t hold any greens.  Switched to 0317cb’s and everything checked up nicely.  Long, high and straight for sure but too much roll out.

Excellent club choice. Still using my Gen 4s XP and love them though actually started using hybrids thru the 8 iron now. It was never the irons fault though.

I've got a half a dozen rounds in now and I'm really starting to enjoy these irons. It took a bit to get used to the light graphite shafts but now that I've adjusted to them I like them. The Gen 6 XP's go high and straight feel soooo much better than the Ping G410's I played for a season a few years ago. These things feel (sound) so soft. I'm really happy I gave them a shot.

How are you enjoying your PXG irons?  Still performing well?  I am in the market for new irons and I really like the look of these clubs.

Yes. It took me a while to get used to the light graphite shafts but the irons planted firmly in the bag. Being a Ping fan for years I always thought if someone came out with an iron that was as forgiving as Ping G series with better feel they'd have a winner. PXG did that. They aren't going anywhere. My only regret was I didn't wait for 6 weeks and order because I love the double chrome PXG came out with. That's a small detail. I can honestly say I think the Gen 6 XP's are the best feeling and most forgiving iron on the market.

Thanks for quick response.  I am a big fan of Ping G series irons, so to good to hear they compare favorably.

Good to hear. I'm looking to get myself a post-Birthday, retirement-contemplation gift (  I just turned 74 ) and were considering these along with a few others (e.g. Titleist T350, Mizuno 923 HM HL, Cobra Aerojet). Which shaft did you get?

I may be in the minority, here, and, I hope I am.  I love everything the Gen 6 XP offers. Great size/looks/tremendous feel. Over the past few months, I’ve noticed more of a drop off on mishits than I do with my Hot Metals. It’s almost as if they are so soft, they don’t retain the ball speeds across the face. Again, it’s very likely just my own experience, but I’m more confident with the HM’s right now, because of the ball speeds I get primarily off the toe side.

Congrats! I'm 72 today and just retired in January. I got the Darts in senior flex.

Excellent clubheads. Very long. I got the gen5 in i95s cut to the shorter Titliest standard lengths.

 

hopefully you got fitted for the shafts.
