Tried new irons didn't go well. Shaft issue or club issue?

You might want to consider some of the new Maltby heads.  With their custom build shop open now, you can get them configured exactly as needed.  I have a TS3 8 iron I built up with a Nippon NS Pro 950 Neo in regular flex you are welcome to try.  I built it to test that new head and shaft combo - really nice.  I’m only 10 minutes from Carl’s, so just a thought.  They sure wouldn’t cost you $1000 if you liked them.

Another vote for the TS3 from Maltby. GI forgiveness in a player's CB aesthetic. Fantastic clubs!

You know I've casually looked at them a little and I don't know maybe because they're aren't a big brand plus when I looked you had to buy all the components separately. Now that you can have them easily built I may look again.

Lesser know builder brand I guess but the people that know seem to know and people that have tried them all swear by them. Their heads look amazing and I can get a forged GI club.

I highly doubt you'd be disappointed. I've tried irons from across their lineup, from STi2 to KE4 Max and TS3. All have been seriously impressive in their own way. I currently play the TS3 and they feel every bit as good as my buddy's Mizunos, while being super easy to hit.

Many have already pointed it out but I think you just changed too much all at once to really attribute it to one variable. There's a solid chance with some additional time that the worm burners turn into beautiful shots. When it comes to new clubs, especially irons I use a personal rule...change heads OR change shafts but rarely do I do both at once. Unless of course its going into a shaft or head I've previously had experience with. On the Maltby subject, they make a terrific product. I played the DBM cavities for a long time and recently got another set of heads. Sure they aren't stocked at big box stores and they don't have commercials all over golf channel but you cannot and will not beat them for the money. They have a pretty solid following here on the forums at least as far as the irons go, drivers and woods aren't amazing in my opinion but irons, hybrids, and even the putters are equal too or better then the big brands in my experience. I strongly encourage you to try them out. Not only will they offer solid fitting advice over the phone which is about as good as it gets without a launch monitor fitting and build it for you but the "club packs" they offer usually have a decently sized discount built into them compared to what the components cost separately and they will assemble the packs for no charge as well.

Find me a more ridiculous value than either of these sets! Both are 4-GW

I currently play ping raptures with light, 75g iirc, graphite fubuki shafts. I played eye2 with KT-Ms shafts before that. Never really had an issue get them in the air if I didn't top the ball.

I wanted to try some irons will less to very little offset to see the difference but something still forgiving. I like the look at address of the better players clubs more.

....

From the information in your post I'm interpreting this as you have been playing offset irons for 30+ years.

Keep playing offset irons.

Yep, played eye2s for longer than I can remember, went to i3 blades from my dad, went back to the eye2s then the raptures.

Honestly the real answer here is g430s. I tried them and the beginning of the season and hit them beautifully with the stock graphite altas. Just for whatever reason I don't love the way they look. Its silly, I need to get over it but it is what it is. The shots I was hitting with them sure were pretty and that's what really matters.

Also they're pretty expensive so there was that too. That said with how long I tend to use clubs I would definitely get my money's worth out of them. So maybe I just wait until they get discounted at the beginning of next season.

Also I sort of wanted to try something other than ping just to try something different but damn it they don't just work for me.

I probably just need to look at the simplest answer to the question. Its usually the right one.

If offset is your friend... scope out those maltby ke4s I posted a pic of. Or just stick with the raptures honestly...nothing wrong with older clubs, literally all of my bag by choice with the exception of my putter is over 10 yrs old.

If you only purchase irons every 10-15 years you should spend a little extra and go through a fitting at Carl’s, it will be well worth the money. They have some excellent fitters at the Bloomfield Hills store and the cost is minimal. You’ll also be able to test different head and shaft combos. If you’re interested in the names of a few of their top fitters feel free to PM me and I’ll give you there information.

Honestly I think it's silly to buy an off the rack set with how easy it is to get fit nowadays. I wouldn't spend the money without getting custom fit.

The lofts on the new clubs are for sure stronger but I was using 7 irons and I wouldn't expect the flight to be that bad just based on that but maybe the lower loft coupled with less offset and smaller head could have something to do with it. Plus based on the distance I was hitting I was also probably losing tons of clubhead speed with the heavier shafts.

Yep, drastically different than your current set and clearly not a good fit for you.
