Ryder Cup ... has it 'Jumped the Shark'?

I would also add one more thing... golf needs villains and players that genuinely hate each other. The tension between Phil and Tiger back in the day could be felt through the TV. I don't feel any of that now especially with a lot of the guys going to LIV that were responsible for some of the tension. Now you see all of them buddying up on social media and hanging out and it makes it tough to buy into any sort of rivalry. I think it has watered down the product a lot. Just my two cents...

While I have no dislike for Rory and love to watch him play, what is he 5’7” or so? He needs to be aware of his limitations before going all tough guy lest he call out the wrong guy. My dad used to call the little tough guys Banty Roosters.

Can you imagine how much of a beatdown that would be?

Are you accounting for the four U.S. Ryder Cuppers who just allowed themselves to be photographed in LIV jerseys?

For me, this Ryder Cup will be remembered less for the competition and more for the rift between the U.S. players and the PGA of America over compensation and also the PGA Tour members who don’t appear to be as anti-LIV as some might hope. Add to this the debacle that the President’s Cup has become and I’m not sure what these events look like going forward. The U.S. team doesn’t seem to be content with the current arrangement.

My problem with the Ryder Cup is as followed:

1. It's a made for TV money grab with free labor, to fund other golf events.

2 Europe is sore losers and sore winners. If they lose they whine for two years, if they win they gloat for two years with television specials, bragging, etc...

If you note the USA won at Whistling Straights and the fact was hardly mentioned in two years. You can look for minstrels to sing songs about the EU win Rome.

3. You see the same Captains and vice captains in the RC and Prez Cup.

~Just my opinion of course.

They could get rid of the Presidents Cup and it would not bother me in the least.  Or they could have Asia, Africa and Australia play the US and then Europe every other year - US one year, Ryder Cup, Europe the next year, Ryder Cup etc.

Canada could join us for a North American team for Ryder and Presidents Cups.  That would be good for US - Canada relations.

I'm in this boat and didn't watch a single minute of the Ryder Cup or the President's Cup. The last one I watched was the Reed vs. Rory matchup because that was truly entertaining.

This is where I think the LIV team concept could be implemented. Have teams from each nation (maybe several for America and other talent loaded countries) qualify by their players earning points throughout their regular season in their respective Tours for a playoff bracket series. That would be actually entertaining to watch.

Yes. Sorry to say this, but Rory was right years ago. It is an exhibition. Also feels extra contrived given that nowadays most Europeans play full time on the PGA. Add to it the consolidation of the PGA and DP, it just doesn't have the teeth it used to. As much as I hate LIV, that would be something truly worth watching. LIV vs PGA/DP is a legit rivalry now. Would be much more compelling IMO.

If the deal hours through, this is already being planned I’m sure,

Dilemma for Rory! What’s he gonna be all Mr. Euro against Americans one day? Then Rah-Rah with the Americans when they play LIV ? 🤣

I don't think it's jumped the shark as much as it's simply been boring the past few times. Too many blowouts really doesn't make for a good event. It's been lopsided in the favor of the host team for over 10 years, give it a couple tight matches again and it could get right back on track. 2008, 2010, 2012 were fantastic, since then a bunch of duds.

I do agree that LIV and the potential loss of top players could threaten the event, which is a terrible shame. I would not have the same interest in a RC type event against LIV, primarily because there are no parameters for being a LIV member and players could jump sides. Part of the intrigue of the Ryder Cup is seeing who's coming through the ranks for both sides and what might be in the future.

Given the mentality of youth today, where ever home advantage may be, the outcome could be likened to the Battle of Thermopylae.  The winners are driven by the support of home numbers, NOT heroic persistence against seemingly impossible odds, taking the win.

Go to any tour event and you'll see the same....hospitality tents on every inch of the property.

I went to bayhill 2 years ago, first time I had been since about 2004. I couldn't believe all of the corporate crap everywhere. They just pack the comfort areas onto the course. I hated it. Tour events aren't about people watching the sport, they're about bozos going to get hammered and be seen.

Ryder cup is no different. All the media hype leading up to the event. All the player commitments the week of.

I hate where the tour is headed. I hate the exorbitant amount of money now involved.

If any player on either side feels they're being taken advantage of then they should remove their name from consideration...make the event change to be less glam and more about the golf.

All true!

Who was complaining, wanting to be paid?

A media source, using an unnamed source, allegedly in the team room, said "so & so wanted to be paid for wearing a hat.  I didn't include the so & so's name because the whole topic was second hand media conjecture.  Later, in the press conference, so & so said it wasn't true.
