Alan Shipnuck - is his time over finally? (*** NO POLITICS ***)

We all know that Alan Shipnuck is the one that broke the informaton with his Phil.   Stating he has it all on tape, etc.  Phil said it was in confidence and Alan saying it was not.  Yet when Alan was put the spot a few times to privide proof he would never produce any evidence.   

 

Now Justin Thomas and others are blasting him as he is now attacking Rory with some comment from an  "Unnamed source".  Stating  "I captured that emtion, I did not creat it"

Given Thomas was willing to say he speaks for a lot of tour players in his post they are tired of him.  Is Alan's time over now.   Seems like no one will probably ever talk to him again.

Doubtful. Alan comes directly from a long legacy of muckrakers. Some shine a light where needed, others are just stirring the pot. Regardless, there will always be some disgruntled soul willing to air their grievances. There is an endless list of people just dying for someone to listen to their complaints and a whole army of gossip queens that love to tell stories simply to prove that they are on the inside. 

 

I'm sure there will be a handful of players that refuse to talk w/ Shipnuck outside the confines of the press conference, but there will always be plenty of frustrated people more than happy to chat off the record.

There's a fine line between good journalism and entertaining journalism.  The unnamed guy slamming Rory is believable but good journalism is about getting guys on record.  This isn't Woodward and Bernstein breaking Watergate with a confidential informant.  The kind of stuff thing that's really low level is the Koepka quote and including the name of Thomas and Spieth.  Keopka may have made the "Country Club Kids" comment but it's Shipnuck saying that he is "referring to the likes of Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and others".  Did Shipnuck ask him who he was referring to?  It could be implied but it doesn't sound like Shipnuck either asked or got an answer who he was referring to. Throwing out big names without a confirmation is just classic click bait. Shipnuck probably uses the logic of 'Brooks said country club kids and Spieth and Thomas are country club kids so that's who he talking about'.  Maybe Brooks had those 2 on his mind but did he mention them.  Perhaps it was one of the other 100+ "country club" kids on tour but using Thomas and Spieth draws a lot more attention than say, Kevin Tway and Troy Merritt.

I don't think Shipnuck was at Adare Manor that week. But he has history of sneaking into locker rooms after majors and going where he isn't supposed to go apparently. Certainly committed to the story.

 

In the Koepka quote part it felt like he had added in Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth in some editorialising. Koepka may have said it but in a kinda drunk 'stick it to the man!' kinda way that wasn't really calling anyone specific out but just the country club scene in general. But then by Shipnuck adding in names, it makes it look like a personal attack.

He’s just asking that it not be rumor or made up. As in show us the video.  Stop saying “ my un named inside source “.  Shipnuck has a mouse in his pocket.  Apparently. Point taken in a way. He should stay away or not partake.  But he’s not wrong.  The kids that grew up on a private with daddy’s account to charge.  They have a different smell to them.  😎.  He shouldn’t be mentioning it. But it’s true.

I don't think JT's family was swimming in cash as his dad was the head pro @ Harmony Landing CC. But he likely did have unlimited access to the facilities and a golf course which Koepka did not. Brooks also was a victim of where he grew up as CC prices in West Palm Beach are high compared to other areas of the state.

Yeah, it's very trashy stuff and very little to no journalism involved there, insulting to hard-working journos to consider it the same. Case in point the story he had on Rahm apparently saying it was "really stupid" that Garcia wasn't on the Ryder Cup team immediately after it was announced, the headline presenting it as a live quote. When he said it in May, not September.

Not as a blanket argument no.  Generalizing is always inaccurate….But more likely to be ?  Ehh. I’m biased having worked for a 36 hole private in my youth and experiencing 1st hand how they treat the help , so I probably am not the one to say. 🤣.  

Let’s just say i smell what he’s stepping in and leave it at that.
