Not a huge turnout.  Definitely needs more fans.

Miami soccer was a thing saturday and theyre kind of big thing for some reason  so maybe saturday had fewer people which made the modest crowd of sunday seem bigger.

He's definitely been a lot more enjoyable to watch now that all this faux "bulk up" stuff is in the rearview,  and I enjoy his YT channel more these days. His equipment has gotten more interesting post Cobra as well.

Wouldn't be surprised if he wins a major next year. Hopefully he gets on the next RC team

He needs to get back to being an elite level putter for that to really happen IMO. 2020 and 2021 had far superior putting stats which have regressed pretty sharply in the last two years. His recent form suggests that is improving, but LIV has extremely rudimentary stat tracking so it's hard to say for sure. His recent videos with Grant Horvat has some pretty loose putting, but he also putted lights out previously on aerated greens so WHO KNOWS 😆

From watching his YouTube videos, my impression of his green reading skills is that he wouldn’t be on tour if he didn’t have a caddie and green reading books.

That's because it's provokingly uninteresting. It's as if someone straight out of the blue posted the scores from their buddies trip. The scores are of course meaningless to anyone not directly involved, what might stir some interest is why the poster thought anyone would care.

Sounds like any golf other than your own game or one you may have a betting interest in.  Perhaps it is more like the PGAT where if you rationalize it, no grown man should really care how another grown man does on the golf course, as, like you say, the scores are meaningless to anyone not directly involved.  Maybe, just maybe, some people still follow BDC or Phil or Dustin Johnson or Bruce the same way that some people still follow Rory and Tiger and Victor Hovland.

It is golf.  It is professional golfers hitting a golf ball on a golf course.  A pretty good golf course that was fairly recently renovated by Gil Hanse.  It is a largely unique format in professional golf.  < That is the motivation.

I’ve thought it to myself and never said it out loud bcs I know I’ll get roasted. But, being able read greens is such a great skill and integral part of the game, I don’t feel players should get any help doing it 🤷🏼‍♂️ There, I said it! Haha

I really liked the match-play format of the first two days.  The final day was a little flat, no doubt caused by a few of the key guys (like DJ) just playing mediocre.  Had it come down to the final group of captains, on 17 and 18, things would have been ramped up a bit.

Add a fourth day, make day three another day of match play for positions 1-4, 5-8, 9-12.  Then day four is another day of match play for positions 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 etc.

If LIV ended up shrinking and becoming only say six team events a year with this four-day match-play format, I think it would be perfect.  Plenty of holes in the calendar to fit a match-play team event with 12-16 teams half a dozen times a year.  Team Callaway, Team Taylormade, Team Nike (for the non-oem contracted guys), Team Dewalt (for anyone who wants to play with Cantlay), Team BMW etc.

I am with you. I find him pretty interesting on YouTube when he is explaining things, and I understand that scientifically all that may indeed be happening, but it still just brings you back to "a ball out on the left", or "152 actual, playing 145".

In that case, why root for the NY Yankees, LA Lakers, Dallas Cowboys, or the Range Goats? These are all just legal entities formed to extract money from consumers. Disney and Coca Cola are just bigger.

LIVs entire business plan is to build and sell 12 brands in order to pay back and hopefully provide a return to the seed investors.

Sure. And rooting for Red Bull is different than rooting for Mercedes which is different than rooting for Williams Racing. If you're looking for ideological purity you should probably stick w/ amateur sports, everybody else has sold out, some more than others.

I don't feel they should get to use any distance aids.  Being able to estimate distance with your eyes is an integral golf skill.

The DP World Tour player, who was in Spain for the Andalucia Masters while the action unfolded in Florida, aired his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter) in response to a clip of Bryson DeChambeau’s winning putt posted by Golf Digest.

He wrote: “I tried, sincerely, I just tried to watch this and feel something genuine. Joy, inspiration, something. And I just cringed. It’s just all cringe, the whole show, the teams, the individuals. Hate to s*** on something but honestly, it’s just so far away from being compelling.”

Pepperell has never been afraid to criticise LIV Golf. In April, he became involved in an online spat with one of the players on the circuit, Richard Bland, after saying of the stadium hole at LIV Golf Adelaide that he was “not sure how much LIV is really changing things here” given a similar hole used at the WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale on the PGA Tour.

Ed just simply told it like it is.

The abysmal lack of interest in LIV shows that he's right.

Auto racing is different. Companies product on the grid, not just a name. Honda literally pulled out of F1 because their poor performance was hurting global sales. Auto racing developed because companies used it as a proving ground for their cars and there was also national pride behind each manufacturer.

Every other sport is linked to a location for a reason. People like routing for the home team. That's why it's the New York Yankees and not the Gieco Yankees. The closest thing to LIV would be bike racing teams and that is in constant financial flux.

Auto racing may have started that way but has changed significantly. Red Bull is a energy drink that somehow became the dominant force in F1. So dominant that they have a 2nd team named after their apparel brand. Nascar isn't simply Ford vs Chevy. Some of the legacy remains, some has been created. Regardless, motorsports and golf don't have the same regional affiliations as other sports.

LIV isn't going to rebrand to Jupiter Smash, Scottsdale Fireballs, and the Sea Island Range Goats in hopes of grabbing a regional following. Their best bet is to create their own brands, or partner with some existing entity like Nike or the various golf OEMs as others have suggested. Unfortunately for LIV, it doesn't appear as if any of those groups have any interest.

Slightly off topic but my son is a junior golfer. I've always had him give me his best guess at yardages before using his rangefinder. He can use yardage markers or whatever he wants but I want him to try and figure it out before lasering. I just know one of these days that thing will die during a tournament round and he'll be better off than most.

No respectable company is going to touch one of these “teams.”
