Trouble shifting weight.

I'm almost 58 years old and not as flexible now.

My problem is getting stuck on my right side ( right handed player).

I rotate good, and get my left shoulder under my chin, but  when I swing , I don't get a good follow thru.

I've tried narrowing my stance, and raising my left heel during the turn, and those seem to help.

If I'm over the top, my stopping point is about waist high after impact, but when the down swing is inside out it's better.

It's just hard to get a good finish.

With my 7 iron- PW it's not as bad, mostly with driver and fwy woods.

Does anyone have some drills or fixes?

Shifting weight through the swing is vital.  I am 70+yrs young and still swing hard.  Recently, my wife found what's called a "Pressure Plate" to help refine the users' balance/pressure points, back and through the ball.  Works nicely almost anywhere, even my office.  My wife even uses it.

Make a balance board, get Monte's powershift video, watch grf golf on youtube. Sounds like you're way late re-centering.

Feet close together step swings like the video linked above. Best way to practice "getting through" on the follow through in my opinion. It helped me figure out at what point in the backswing I should be feeling the "step forward" weight transfer in a normal swing.

If you're going to get stuck on one side or the other you want it to be the front side. At least that way you have a chance! Chances are you'll still get plenty of weight shifted even if you feel like it all stays on your front foot throughout the swing.

Practice making swings with your feet together at first. Then spend some time hitting balls with your trail foot pulled back off the target line. Feeling the opposite of what you're fighting may help you find the right balance.

If you’re stuck on the right side, you’re not rotating properly. 
 

Proper rotation starts the shift at the end of the backswing.  If you’re trying to shift at the beginning of the downswing it’s too late.

@MonteScheinblum is that why sometimes I feel like I'm getting effortless power, but also feel like I'm firing my hips too early?

I saw a video a couple of  years ago that showed a pro moving his hips forward before the club was all the way back .

Does this make sense?

You have to get on your back foot before you can off of your back foot. Your weight should be balanced on your right leg and hip at the top, getting to your left side too soon causes you to lose your balance and you'll hit the ball like crap.

I agree with this for a driver. Rotate around your right leg for driver and left leg for everything else.

If you're used to the type of pattern that gets you stuck on the trail leg then a proper hip sequence WILL likely feel too early. A face on swing video can help confirm this pretty easily, particularly with a longer iron or wood.

Yesterday I did the feet together 'baseball' shift.

Started with a 7 iron,then a 5 iron.

It feels weird at first. 

I'm going to keep going up in clubs until I get the driver going.

Before , if I did try to unload onto my left side, it was a reverse pivot and the ball flew high.

This method seems to be working good.

Also, my plane is inside out without fighting it.

 

Thanks for all the help, and I will update in a week or so.

I've gained about 10 yards with 7 iron and it feels crisp when the ball takes off.

Other than thinking about the Kardashians he's using his body like a whip to snap the clubhead into the ball.
