Jones Trouper - club organisation?

Hi all,

I want to love this bag soo bad. It looks awesome, the cooler pocket is perfect for me, it fits into my push cart perfectly and I’ve got the pockets to work.

 

Problem is club tangle from the top two sections of the 5 way divider not being true full dividers. My putter, Driver, 3 wood and 2 iron are tangling soo bad it’s driving me insane. I have mid sized grips.

 

How are you guys organising your clubs to avoid tangle?

You're getting tangling because the putter divider doesn't go all the way down.

I haven’t experienced club tangle at all. I think it’s one of the best divider setups.

@ciscojaws and @TeeAreNY do you have mid sized grips? I have a Superstroke Flatso 2.0 grip on putter and mid sized grips, so that might be the reason why.

 

I find the top section of the bag (putter and woods) very tight, but tinkering with the bag yesterday in the garage, I noticed the bottom section (for wedges) is massive and can easily fit 5 clubs with no tangle.

@Mikee_j Thanks! I’ve got a super stroke flatso 2.0 on my putter as well but I don’t play midsize grips. Ive got Golf Pride MCC+4 on all my clubs. Hope moving the club to the bottom slot fixes it for you.

Mine tangles regardless of how I set the bag up.  Midsize grips and a standard Lamkin deep etch putter grip.

I have stopped using this as a walking bag though as I don't think it carries well. I use a Carbon now. I converted the Trouper to single strap only and use as a cart bag.

I use the putter section for my driver. 

 

The next section has three woods. 

 

The two side-by-side sections have three irons each. 

 

The bottom section has three wedges and my putter.

Tested this the other day and it works really well. Plenty of space in the lowest section for 5 clubs and it frees up the top section for 3 clubs only.

 

Finally I’ve found a bag that I genuinely will keep for a long time! Thankfully I don’t try to carry with the bag, as it carries soo badly, I use it as a single strap for riding and push cart, albeit the single strap usually comes off when I play.

Glad this worked out for you. Oddly enough I carry primarily and have had no problems. There was a little bit of an issue with the straps being independent since they don’t have the middle connector but another member posted a hack for it that has been awesome. I do know some members have mentioned the straps just not fitting well but luckily I have not had that issue. I do know Jones upgraded the strap design recently where you can buy the straps and use on older trouper models.

Update: 

 

Not quite perfect yet. Still getting tons of club tangle in the upper section where I only have putter, driver and 3 wood. Crazy how 3 clubs can’t sit together without causing a problem. Will play around more, maybe moving the putter down to the wedge section.

That's a lot to ask of that small section. I usually have either my putter or my driver in the small section with nothing else most of the time.

The top section meaning the top 2 divided areas. They are essentially one area as they are not full length dividers and putter area (the top section of the two) is only separated by a tiny divider

Game over with this bag. The club tangle is unbearable. Had a good look at it this evening and the dividers are not all full length which doesn’t help either.

 

Looks great but performs rubbish for anyone with mid sized grips

I had to throw the towel in on this bag as well off a few reasons. 
 

1) So top-heavy. No matter how I adjust the straps it’s too heavy and I feel the clubs would fall out

2)The pockets arent my favorite. The cooler pocket is too large and the side pockets aren’t great. 
3) The straps are awful. I even bought their new straps and they are marginally better

4) The stand broke, jones replaced the broke parts but it still faulty

 

I love the look, it’s super light and has no branding. I just can’t get passed the topheavy feeling to it. It’s infuriating. Fix that and the pockets and it’ll the best bag.

The first time I loaded mine it seemed top heavy as well. I found by reorganizing my pocket contents it came into perfect balance. 
 

Your golf balls really need to be in the correct pocket, which is the one that zips on the right side of the cooler pocket but allows the contents to go under the cooler pocket. When I have my usual 6-7 balls in that pocket my bag never feels anything but balanced.

For simply the function of playing golf, the Hoofer Lite blows away the Trouper, no contest.  If you're into form over function, then maybe give the Trouper a look.

I had a ping bag years ago, only hiccup on my end I dont like is I dont play any ping clubs and the branding on their bags now I’m not thrilled with.  It also faded pretty badly and looked like sh*t in 2 years.    Was almost leaning towards Vessel for the “quality” everyone seems to rave about but I have a pleather Linksmaster Titleist bag now and it gets hot lugging it around in summer months against my back.   I also find even though it’s a nice looking bag, all the pockets and layout is tight.   Looking for something of good quality, good smart features that make sense, has enough room for stuff but not over the top.  Something timeless that’s just really good.  On the Jones site now, are these the bags they’ll release for 2024 especially the Trouper or no one knows if they’ll release new soon?
