Heel digging always lie angle related, or can it be swing related?

I've been hitting a lot of low-ish left shots on the course, pretty hard pulls, and had assumed my path had crept back to my old ways (which used to be very left). However jumped on an indoor trackman session yesterday and found that my path was actually very good (mostly within a couple of degrees either side of zero), and my clubface control was mostly very good also - but I had a bunch of bad shots where I clearly hit fat and closed the club face severely. This mirrors my miss on the course. I knew I was hitting some of them fat on the course, but it actually become more obvious on the mats and with trackman. Does this sound like it's lie angle related or swing related? I'm playing black dot i210's. Was fit into that lie angle on those heads a couple of years ago when I had a left path and steep swing. Do they need to be flatter? I realise now that the fat miss has always felt weird, not like a big chunky fat miss with a wedge hit 2 inches behind the ball, more like a yank. I never hit fat and it goes straight and short, when I hit fat it's almost always this left miss.
To complicate things, I had a hit on my wife's clubs which are 0.5 inch short (but 2 degrees upright), and the fat miss immediately disappeared. I'm going to take her irons out on the course (we play a similar iron shaft) and confirm, but from a solid amount of testing on trackman it was definitely working for me. Could it be length related? Even though these are upright, I wasn't digging the heel at all.
Yes I know this is probably better with video, and yes I should go back to my fitter but just want to get some opinions in the meantime because I'm interested.

If it was your lie/length combination that was off, your non-fat shots would go left also, assuming they are the result of a proper swing.  If so you don’t appear to have a lie angle problem.  On the other hand, as is sometime the case, if your nonfat shots straight shots are the result of raising your hands (and body) to prevent chunking it, this would also raise the heel of the club, so that if you were to swing properly (keep your body and hands lower) your lie would be too upright and the shot would go left.

Hey Monte, just wanted to say that I love that Bertrand Russell quote.  So true.   The guy was a smart cookie.  I looked up some of his others.  This one seemed to apply especially to golf - "The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time."

Actually on the course, I do miss left a lot. Straight pulls but sometimes also a pull with a draw and sometimes a path that starts right but over-draws. I don't seem to have many straight shots, my successful iron shots are usually just big draws with the right amount of curve and starting line for that shot. 

It's sounding very possible that there's some lie angle related issues here, along with me shutting the face on some shots. Would you agree? Path seems to be generally ok, but does vary either side of neutral.
