Stewart Vertx Review

Recommended Posts

I've owned a Stewart X9 Follow for about 4 years. A few months ago I entered the Stewart Giveaway.  Every few months they draw a name for a free cart. Well, about 2 weeks ago I received an email stating that I had won the Stewart Fall Giveaway for a Vertx Remote Cart.

I received the upgraded Carbon Vertx Remote 2 days ago. Using it yesterday for the first time saw a little learning curve. I couldn't just walk away and have it follow like I did with my X9. It's very well built.  Much more solid then it appears.  Folds and unfolds with ease.  Folded it has an excellent carry handle which is great. It is very compact when folded.

On the course it maintains it's speed up and down hills perfectly. On side hills it maintained it's direction.  No turning down the hill on it's own.  It was extremely easy to use.  Given the weight of the cart and my bag I can't see anyway I can tip it over unless it's user error.

The rear wheels are 3" narrower then the X9 but the front wheels are about 3" wider then the X9.  The wheel base makes this very stable.

Stewart has an app that connects via BT to monitor the battery.  Power output, battery level and temperature are monitored.

Overall a great cart.  It is a pleasure to walk with this cart.  With the electronics reading the dual motors 1000x per second, it holds it's line and needs nearly no input from the user as you walk the fairway.

This one is at the top of my list.  If they go on sale for Father's day - I'll probably bite.

Any longer term use updates?  I have about 16 hours left on the pre-season sale.

Nothing more to say then that I love the machine! Works flawlessly. Never even come close to tipping over. It's very stable. I love that it holds it's speed up and down hills. No need to adjust the speed.  Very easy in and out of the car. I can't think of a "con".   Maybe that it doesn't have a seat! 😁

Ok, here's a con... The battery for charging, plugs in on the bottom of the battery. Kind of weird. But in the long run, it really is no big deal.

If you've never had Follow cart and your course isn't curvy between holes I'd  recommend the Q Follow. It's worth every extra penny for a cart that follows. You don't need to do anything except walk the course!

I use both carts twice a week. They are both great carts.  You can't go wrong.

Btw my golf buddy will be selling his CartTek remote and purchasing a Follow. He loves my X9 Follow cart. He'll be getting a Q Follow.

Thanks. My course is mostly flat.  Hills on 3 of the back 9 holes.  We have a couple of skinny bridges to navigate and the cart path goes along a path with a drop off to a pond on one side.  I'll look into the follow but am leaning towards Vertx.

Glad I could help. We have a few narrow bridges also.  I go over them 50/50 in either follow mode or remote. Depends on my mood.

Just a side note. If you go follow you get the best of both worlds.  It can follow or be used the same as a remote.

Lol. Awesome review of the 2. If I didn't love the follow I'd get the Vertx for sure. It definitely has great features, atc, regenerative breaking, app support for the battery, etc.  The Q and  X do run downhill a bit. Slows going up. And slides sideways on side slope. But I never really notice because it's behind me! 😊 But in follow mode it does not react that way. It maintains up and downhill speed along with your pace. Also status behind you on a slope.

It's a tough decision. They are both great machines. Even without the follow mode the Vertx is top of the line of any machine made.

Pulled the trigger this morning on the Refurbished Vertx.  Black with 45 hole battery.  Stewart and 596 were both helpful in answering questions about the current offerings.  I got the shipping lable notice soon after placing the order.

I'm thinking about the refurbished Vertx as well.  Are you happy with your purchase?

It's a solid machine. It looks way better built than any of the others I have seen on our course.

You do not get 90 free trial with the refurbished unit - so keep that in mind.  You'd have to pay return shipping and a re-stocking fee.

Mine was obviously used before I got it - but it seemed in like new condition, operationally.

Folding/unfolding is easy enough - but with the battery placement and orientation - you have to remove it to charge - and you have to almost completely unfold to take the battery out and put it back in.

The non-swiveling front wheels are not ideal, IMO - but not a deal breaker.

The 45 hole battery lasts longer than 45 holes for me.

The remote is big but not too big.

There's no storage on the cart except for the scorecard compartment.

My Clicgear umbrella holder does not fit the Stewart - and it's $15 for shipping if you buy it after the fact.  My clicgear cup holder did work with the Stewart.

Overall - I'd do it again - but I may pay the extra $200 and get a new 27-hole model.

Thanks for your thoughts.  I'll give my 2 cents if I pull the trigger.

Couple of more thoughts:

The folks at Stewart USA will not ever pick up the phone.  They do, however respond to email - usually within a day.

The app that you have to use to show how much battery life is left has a bug that they say they are working on.  Basically - you have to register on the app every time you use it.  Seems like an easy thing to fix - but it's been several weeks now that I know of - and it is still broken.  The app itself works great.  Still it would be nice to not have to use it.  Not sure how much an onboard battery meter would add to the the price of a unit.

I did a head to head traction comparisson between my Vertx and my buddy's MGI.  Both struggled some wheel slippage going straight up a steep hill - the MGI struggled more.
