Electric Trolleys

I just bought a CaddyTrek 3RX and took it out on its maiden voyage for nine holes this morning. So far so good, but there is a learning curve with the camera. The follow mode is very easy, I still need to get the marching mode down.

Let me know how you like the matching mode.  I almost bought one just for that feature.  Seems kind of funny sliding left to go right and right to go left in that mode. Just wondering if it's natural feeling or a learning curve.

We have a guy at our club that has one but he won't use either the matching mode or follow mode. ☹️

Thanks

There is a bit of a learning curve with the marching mode - you are right, you slide a little left to go right but after a few more rounds I will have it down. So far I have been using the follow mode and I have to say - it’s very relaxing. I wish I would have done this sooner

3 of our members bought follow carts after seeing or trying mine.  It's the only way to play.  I have to say that some clubs are not really conducive to walking.  Some clubs have too much distance up and downhill to the next tee box.   Some I've walked have over 1/4 mile between holes.   I've walked some that were close to 10 miles for 18 holes.  That's a bit to far to enjoy.  But for the vast majority of courses the follow cart is a perfect way to play.

I have the m7 gps/remote version - I was torn about getting the cheaper remote-only or gps-only versions but my wife took the decision out of my hands for my 50th birthday, Glad she did - I use both the remote and the gps (and actually play better now that I don’t habitually laser the flag  because I play the middle of the green distances and don’t flag-chase in a way that is unhelpful for someone of my limited ability!)

Is the gps worth the extra money. I don't need the screen or the view of the green. But could see  it following u a good idea.Torn between what's better the remote or it just following u around..  Can it cross narrow bridges easily ?

do most use the remote ?

I use the remote constantly. I much prefer keeping the cart out in front of me and sending it ahead to my ball, or be able to zip it up towards the next tee after I’ve pulled my putter. The remote just sits in my pocket most the time, and it is small enough to be unobtrusive.

I’ve like the gps because I’d gotten used to shooting the pin and I should really be aiming middle of the green given my ability. I could, however, easily live without it.

Realize that all follow carts can be used either in follow mode or a normal remote mode.  90% of the time I use the follow mode but there are times I use it in remote mode.

Mine follows easily across narrow bridges.  We have 5 on our course.

Does the mgi and the motocaddy 7 have follow mode?

I use my remote 100% of the time. It's the only way to go as far as I'm concerned.

I’ve used a powakaddy for 18 years and only had two trolleys in that time. Think in total I’ve had four batteries (two for each trolley) one replacement charger for the old lead acid version and two clutches. Touch wood, they’ve been super reliable.

I've had Powakaddys for years, dating back to the '90's.  I have a couple of Classics, and a Freeway.  None have been used in close to ten years, and I'd like to start using one of them, at least.  Does anyone know of a repair source near North Texas?

Alternative would be purchasing a new Powakaddy, if I can find a retailer in the US.

I have the MGI Navigator GPS model. I rarely use the GPS screen, as I prefer my laser. That said, I do find it useful in a few specific situations:

-When I'm in a tough spot and can't see the pin or my lay-up area.

-During slow rounds, where I want to get ready in advance. I’ll laser the pin from farther back in the fairway, compare it to the front/middle/back yardages on the GPS, and then use that differential to estimate the pin yardage when I get to my ball.

I enjoy using the caddy overall, but I use stand bags and refuse to switch to a cart or hybrid bag. I had to buy an adapter off Etsy just to keep my bag from twisting, which feels ridiculous given the price of the unit. It’s clear they’re trying to push people into their bag ecosystem which only guarantees I’ll never buy one of their bags.

Stability is decent. I’ve dumped mine a few times thanks to the elevation changes on my course, but after a few rounds, I learned where I need to keep a hand on it.

The controls are a weak point. We grew up playing video games, there’s no reason for the responsiveness to be this poor. If I input too many commands quickly, there’s noticeable lag when trying to stop it. It’s not just my unit, my wife’s does the same. It shouldn’t require a “less is more” approach to inputs.

This is my first electric caddy, but I’d say the value is underwhelming. Walking has improved my game and made golf more enjoyable, so I don’t regret the purchase but I’m confident someone else can build a better product.
