ShortGolfer
Spent a lot of time practicing a swing change so I estimate $350 for green fees this year. $35 at Highland Links in Provincetown Cape Cod and the rest at a local executive course. Dancin
I play mostly public courses around my house along with a few private courses I have friends at. I also have a private membership away from my town that I get out to about 20-25 days a year and also take a couple golf trips a year. Not including the away private club dues or the golf trips, I spend about $1500-1800 a year playing 1.5-2 times a week, higher when I play more as a guest at the private clubs in a year. If I include golf trips and my private club dues it's probably in the $9k-10k range although it's hard to figure out exactly what the golf trip greens fees are since those are usually a room and golf package deal. Roejye
I'd guesstimate about $700-$900 personally, but dad helps out with my membership. If I were to buy the membership myself it would go up to $1000-$1200, if all spending was the same. However if I had to buy the membership myself it would probably be around $900-$950. MattC555
I don't belong to a club, so cash for all my rounds, and I spend a lot of time on a rented simulator. I take at least one golf trip a year. I'd say $1000 on the simulator, $3000 on greens fees, and $2000 on the golf trip. So, about $6k. For example, I have three golf trips planned for next year right now (Ireland twice plus Bandon). Average cost for the three trips (including airfare, accommodations, etc) is about $4K. Average of 6 golfing days per trip. RoyalMustang
Rounds: Greens fees: $3k for twilight membership, $500 for rounds other than my home course locally. I also spent $240 on a week-long trip that involved golf but wasn't a golf trip. Gear: regripping is about $90. I've been playing the same clubs for 3 years but if you figure I need to swap out eventually, another $250 per year amortized over 5 years. I only buy used. Gloves: $15 each, probably go through 8 a year, so $120 Balls: I only buy new for a few tournaments that require the same type of balls. I bought $100 worth of Z-star XV's last year on discount (48 balls) but that should last me 2 years, so $50/year. I hunt for balls and play what I find in the woods otherwise: I have at least 90 Pro V1s/TP5s here in mint condition. No need to buy anything else. Tournaments: I spent $950 on tournaments last year. Ouch! Car to and from course: I probably played 175 9-hole rounds. It's 6 miles round trip, so 1050 miles. At 60 cents a mile that's $630. Clothes: aside from a few nicer RLX polos that I wear (they are great in heat), I don't like golf-branded clothes. Everything else I wear at the course I would still own. $200 or so. Shoes: I walked all but 3 rounds this year; I go through a lot of shoes. Roughly $600 worth in the past year. Roughly speaking, that's $7500/year. But it's also the only thing I spend money on recreationally.
golfpractitioner5
For me, I’m at around $6,000 a year on average over the last few years just on golf green fees. This does not include travel, equipment, balls, clothing, or food at the course. This will go up considerably in a couple years when my kids hit school, and I can get out more while they are at school. Looking at possibly joining a private country club, too, so that will put me around $8000 a year right from the start.
McMunch
I own a boat and one year I worked out the cost per hour. With a 6-7 month boating season in the Northeast I was absolutely horrified at the number. I'm a muni guy and not a member of a club but I either way think golf is way cheaper so I have no plans to work out that number on the off chance it's just as ridiculous. Pepperturbo
Just golf, I pay for two golfers, and I play 2 to 3 times a week or 130–150 times per year, and green fees are between $85-$275. On second thought, after $2500 green fees over our recent ten-day golf trip, I am not at all interested in seeing my annual cost of golf. @McMunch Boatless now, but I have owned a few ocean boats in slips, and a few trailer boats, I feel ya... add a track car and here in SoCA, boating, like golf and track racing are year around. I need a scotch or 2... 🙂 Golf is way cheaper than... but...
