Yes, but you let him play with 16 clubs for the rest of the round. What were you thinking?? Protecting the field..? 😁

Yes, pretty clear we should’ve acted when we discovered.  It just didn’t occur to us at the time.  Appreciate you,  and others pointing it out.  

 

Back to the topic, Fitzpatrick didn’t ask the question during the round, hope one of the officials advised him that he should have.

Things are never so clear as in hindsight. Some stuff takes a while to think through, plus you had your own games to attend to. I think you're good. 🙂

As the title says, Morikawa is/was mad at the Tour/Official, not Fitzpatrick; at least according to that article - I haven't read much (else) about it.

So if something appears to be off we should look the other way?  You’re other replies seems to state he did the right thing reporting it…albeit a hole or two later than he could have.

Not sure what you are talking about but let me get this perfectly straight from my pow.

 

If a person has time and interest to inspect another player's bag they should have interest to take it all the way.

 

What bothered me in the story was that there were two (!!) former club captains (!!!) in the group and neither of them (!!!) knew how to act until the end of the round. Not to mention that there was the argument "to protect the field".

 

IMO they were NOT "good" but something else.

I didn’t think that’s what you meant but the post I replied to I felt implied it.

Similar situation happened to my partner and I in a greensome knockout ( both drive then alternate shots ).At the 9th tee I drove off first when we were 2up. I then stood at the side of the tee next to an opponent’s bag.  I saw 3 putters and thought I wonder what one would leave out to accommodate this. I saw 5 woods and 3-SW = 17 clubs. He must have thought he could carry one club for each stroke of his handicap, also 17.
 

I consulted my partner ( we were 6 & 8 HCP ) and we raised the issue with the senior member of our opponents ( 9HCP ), chair of the handicap committee. He stated he was conceding the match there-and-then but would we just complete the 18 holes and raise the issue in the bar and we agreed. 
 

On sitting down over beers, the chair of the HCP com raised the issue whereupon the offender stormed out of the club never to be seen again. We three were left in bewilderment. 
 

Yes, we should have behaved differently, but we would likely have been 2up plus the penalty and were trying to be gentle on the guy.
